Remington 798

i want to get this rifle, but the only advantage a know it has over my rem. 700 is the bolt being a exact copie of the mauser98 family of rifles, is there anything else?

I will mis spell the name of who builds the 798... Zastava something like that.
They build excellent rifles and if you like it then buy it because it's very well made.

I just bought one last weekend at cabelas for 482 out the door. i have not shot it yet but will be in the very very near future. nice solid rifle. bolt and action are a copy of the 98 mauser that i have on my ww2 8mm. the bolt is a little stiff but i feel it will work its way soon.

Yall make sure you give us a range report. We need one on this rifle here.

A friend next door built a rifle with the action from an Interarms which is the same on the remington made by Zastava.
He made his rifle a 300 Win Mag and it's very accurate.

I also read a story in one of my gun magazines about 798, as I recall the feller liked it a lot and it shot accurate...A.H

I'd go for it

A rifle that Remington will stamp their name on with a mauser action, can't go wrong

My oldest son has one in .308 with the laminated stock. The barrel is free floated and the bolt is a real precision fit in the action. No evidence of the looseness of some of the military actions. Weight is probably in the 7 1/2 lb. range before adding scope rings, scope, sling, etc. It will shoot sub moa groups with ammo it likes. I feel like they are excellent values at less than $500.00 out the door.

I just wish I could get my Versa-Pod bipod back from him.

AH
Im back from the range with the798. mine is cambered in 300 win

Heres my set up Rem 798 Leupold STD mounts with a Red head pursuit 3x9x40mm. shooting remington express core lock 150gr. After bore sighting it to zero.
headed to the range fired my 1st 3 shot group and was about 2"right and 1"low. after the few minor clicks on the scope i was shooting 3 round groups that could be covered with a quater.
The bolt is still a little stiff but its a new gun and i've heard and read that they are a bit stiff but im thinking it will get better over time.

Now i was useing a lead sled with 50LBS of weight for a rest. But i did fire a few rounds with out the rest and the recoil was not that bad. I have shot other and even smaller caliber's with worse recoil.
I will try and get pix of the gun and the targets up in the next day or to my camera is acting stupid today.
