I do beleive this guy is holding the gun backwards the barrel should be pointed at his head and the thumb used to operate the trigger .lol. I now have heard it all .

It's amazing the lengths people go to trying to find complaints about the 1911. Nothing or nobody is perfect, but the 1911 is a dam fine weapon.

I would think that the slide stop pin could get accidentally hit and cause a malfunction, or else you get your finger caught on the slide somehow. Sounds like it is cause for more trouble and malfunctions that it would be preventing.

Besides, one of the reasons I love a 1911 is the way it just feels natural in my grip. I don't want to be doing finger exercises to fire the darned thing

John browning was a master at design. he made some very fine weapons. he did not make them idiot proof, nor should he have. if one knows the proper technique to hold and fire a weapon, dumb things do not happen.
ever see a revolver shooter loop his left thumb over his right wrist and fire a .45? they only do it once. the slide removes the skin from the left thumbs knuckle. looks pretty painful.

I'm glad I found this tread. I just fired my first 200 rounds through my new Commander. It's way more accurate than I am. I was getting groupings of about 3 inches at 7 yards (maybe meters) but all about 8 to 10 inches lower and to the right of where i was aiming.
more practice for me.

I was actually shown that method of shooting by a doctor friend about 20 years ago. It is very effective for shooting a 2-shot O/U derringer at close range, and only good if your fingers are shorter than mine! I looked at where the tip of my index finger was in relation to the muzzle, and decided that I was not willing to fire like that!

To all of you naysayers, I'm going to tell you the same thing my father told me when I gave him funny looks for eating Baby Ruth bars with his can of Budweiser...

And yes, for the record, I have used this method...but only on my S&W 422. It seems to work well for me. You may be a different. Then again, I spend a metric sh!tload of time on my keyboard, and have been playing guitar for several years. I don't really have a "weak" finger, all of them are of equal strength and dexterity.
If you can control recoil on your piece with two of your fingers on the grip, as opposed to the three you would normally have, it works really well for reflex shooting...as long as your index finger won't get racked up in the slide.
My 422 obviously doesn't have this problem, but I could definitely see it being an issue on any piece with a full-length slide.
Like I said, don't knock it until you've tried it...

It's just like your computer, put your buggerhook on the trigger ,point and click, your overthinking, bad idea when a badguy wants to open the hurtlocker on ya. It's a fighting handgun, simple to use,if your willing to work at it.
