Check out the SA XDm web site. There is a photo and a caption that says "what does the photo and the next XDm have in common"? Well, there are 20 guys standing in the photo (hint hint). I guess the new 9mm will hold 20 rounds? Anyway, they said to check the web site soon for the next available XDm. Might not be as far off as we were thinking. Later, B
There is a thread about in in the "General HAndgun" section. I called and spoke with Springfield and was told there is a new XDM coming out but they do not know what it is going to be. I told the person I was going to buy a 9MM XD but would wait if the XDM was going to be 9MM. She told me she suggests I hold off for a while. I think that was a hint. Also, rumor is that the 9MM XD is supposed to hold 19 + 1. The Spring field website has a photo of 20 people in Springfield shirts and says the picture has something in common with the next XDM. 19 + 1 rounds = 20, 20 people in picture. My guess is I will have a 9MM XDM in my collection soon.

If I were to guess I would also say it will be the 9mm. But guessing is just that and I will wait and see. If it is a 9mm, what will I do with my brand new XD9 sub-compact which I really like a lot? lol

... get the XDM and see which you like better?

after taking both xd's 9mm and 40cal caliber to a private ranch, (sorry peta members) and and went hunting few different animals, 1st on several chickens and wild turkeys, wild goats and some mean as heck ferral hogs. the number of first round kill between the 9mm vs 40mm was 3 to 1 in favor of the 40mm. all shooting was done weapon unsupported, and tracking the targets on foot, over a 5 days trek, day and nite shootins. I was trying to make sure the shooting conditions were as unpredictable as possible, as in real life situation agains a bad guy. used federal hydrashock 115gn 9mm and 135mm 40cal. I shoot 50 animals, 10 been ferral hog. and all was used afterward for food, nothing wasted. this to me seen more realistic than ballistic gel, water jugs and all the other politically correct method. in the service I used the 45 and the 9mm ammo and 9mm always proved to unreliable to accomplish the task. when shooting several enemies you dont have the luxury to waste 4-7 rounds on the same guy. is the 9mm round deadly,oh yes (so the 17/22/32.) . are the 40cal a more superior cal on first shoot kill, in my experience is.45 and 40 ballistic texts are so similar than it will be like comparing 9mm and 38's;too close that the differences are irrelevant. it come down to shooter choice.and in my case experience.no matter what round you choose, as long that the bad guy is down and the good guy walk away alive I'm happy.
I have 135 grain Corbon JHP .40's in my gun right now. They are listed as having a very high "energy" in foot-lbs at 526 foot-lbs. Their velocity is also very high at 1325 fps (I am saying all of these from memory, but I think those are right). My question has to do with bigger and slower bullets, specifically the 165 grain bullets that go around 1150 feet per second and have an energy of about 485 foot-lbs. In real life, which is better? I have tried researching, but you seem to have lots of real experience...any advice? Thanks, B
Sorry, one more thing. The 180 grain rounds for a .40 appear to be on their way out according to an article I read. Do you agree, the 180's are not an optimal bullet for the .40 caliber handgun because they are too heavy and slow - low energy?
heavier bullet will travel slower and when hit a humanbody, will mantain its energy longer, helping with the expansion of the bullet + penetration(ei;shooting thru walls, car doors/glass.this been necessary if you are a cop), and idialistically do everything the bullet is say to do. lighter bullets will travel faster and the higher speed at impact should create the same energy the heavier bullets produce but because the lighter weight will slow down the bullet faster, and in selfdefence aplications this = less chance of overpenetration. during my army time for some missions we made our bullets lighter and a smaller load to make sure the round will stay inside the target. go thru the target and killing others was not an option.I use 135gr personally and never failed to do its job

Keep them both for naturally. One can never own too many guns. I have a .40 XD Subcompact and a 9MM XD Subcompact. I use the .40 Sub as a carry gun and the 9MM Sub to practice with using cheaper ammo but keeping the same size, shape and weight as my carry gun. I haven't bought an XDM in .40 yet but I see a 9MM XDM on my "To Own" list for sure.
... you can also get conversion barrels for the Springfield XD (not sure about XDM) from : Bar-Sto Precision Machine
You seem pretty familiar with these conversion kits. Have you heard of any problems with either Glocks or Springfields converting from .40 to 9mm? A guy at my local gun shop said that that change often doesn't match up properly and causes problems with loading. Any thoughts? I'm really looking for a good range gun but something that could at some point be c/c'd. I considered the Sig 250 which is supposedly made for these types of conversions, but I would much rather go with the Springfield.
