An Ultra Disappointing Day!

It was all dressed up and clean, ready for opening day! Me and my new dream Ultra Carry. I even took the better half to put a few rounds from her carry. I won't go into he opinion on expense and the rest of this story, I'll let it to the imagination! This story is not about jams as my Wilson Mags and the factory worked fine, first two mags less than 3" at 20 feet. I was happy then the first double fire happened one on target the second into the sound proofed ceiling. two mags later the same happened again, fiber falling from the ceiling! I stopped and had one of the gunsmiths check it out and after he got the hammer to follow the slide, he said this needs to go back to the factory. You can only imagine my disappointment and embarrasment. I thought long and hard before my "Kimber" purchase and now I am told I will wait 6-8 weeks to get it back. The only bright point of less than 100 rounds was I got to take out my "worked" Springfield and got compliments on the looks and the way it hit the target. I decided to move up to Kimber because the "smithing" price I put into the Springfieldbut as told the final product shot better than his Sig! I sure did not get the same from my "Dream" gun I sure hope the factory works quick and wants to change my frown to a smile again! Has anybody else had or heard of this problem? Do not get me wrong I am not a Kimber hater just really disappointed!

Equipment failure is one of the most dissapointing things any shooter can experience. IT happens though. Thankfully no one was hurt and it will be fixed. I bet it will not happen again and you will be able to be proud of your purchase.

Thanks for the support! 6 weeks is a long time to back up your "Quality" reputation don't you think?

Hope it all turns out good for you Gunny.
Keep in mind though...expensive doesn't always mean better.

Was it the short barrel 3.5" variant? I heard that all 1911s with shorter barrels can have issues, I don't know how true it is. Kimber will fix it.

As a follow up i called Kimber today to let them know of a DOA inbound! Just to let you know that i am not against Kimber i requested that while the "quality" was put back in it would they also upgrade with a Ambi safety and sights. What's a couple more $$ (hundred) to get it right! I sent a signed letter for the request and had to rush over to the gunshop prior to shipping and me flying out for work. I cannot wait to see how long and how much, will keep the thread updated.

Gunny,
Anything made by man...! I have a Kimber .38 Super I really like, but it seems like the slide recoils too violently. I phoned Kimber Custom shop and explained my perceived problem. The gentleman was very cordial and professional. He indicated that the pistol may have left their shop with the wrong recoil spring.

I received the correct spring in the mail in three days.

Kimber will take care of the problem!

love mine

I have a Team Match II that is 100% reliable and extremely accurate. Nickel sized accuracy off of sandbag rest at 20 yards. For me it is worth every cent of the $1107.10 that i paid for it new. It is not one of my carry pieces, it lives in the safe where it can't get scratched.

for what it's worth, all manufactures let one get by them sometimes.i once had a springfield mil-spec compact that was the most inaccurate pistol i've ever owned.by the end of the shooting day i was ready to throw the gun at the target.i had to shoot my 1991 compact to make sure it wasn't me.nothing is more frustrating than equipment failures to ruin ones time at the range.i hope kimber fixes your gun to your satisfaction.i have shot my friends ultra-carry and it is very accurate and reliable,as is my customII.

Update, I had the chance to confer with a very knowledgeable Kimber dealer in my area, explained whst happened and he told me that it was quite possible that a 1/4 turm off the trigger could have resolved this. He stated he has built a few customs and have had the occasion to create the same thing. If this hold true I really feel like a fool and really disappointed that I sent it in for a 1/4 turn of the trigger and lost the gun for extended period. The bright spot is it will comeback with ambi safety and sights. I cannot wait to get it back!

Update: Kimber customer service in a call yesterday stated the repairs are completed and should go to the range this week! they replaced a part, i forgot the name, and adjusted the trigger. my safety is on and cannot wait to get it back and finally own and carry a Kimber. they are holding true to their 6-8 week turn around. really slow when you consider it!

Well its 11-10 do you have it yet? Have you shot it? Have your problems subsided? I have a TLE II with night sights. Its pretty nice. I like it. I made some oak grips for it and it looks pretty nice. I like the checkering on the front and backs trap of the frame.

got it back, they replaced the plunger assembly (did not know i had one), adjusted trigger, polished feed. i took it to the range and fired 200 rounds and sighted in the laser. it is hitting the target strong and i now feel a lot better! I now feel comfortable enough with it to make it my primary carry after the rocky start.
