I was watching TV and came upon a show where a bunch of you southern boys (OK - AR) were fishing by reaching under logs and into holes with your bare hands, pulling out big ass catfish, some of these fellas were missing a finger or ten, I guess my question is " WTF " are you out of your minds ? and how did it get the name noodling ? did somebody get thier noodle bit man I know times are tough but bait and tackle dont cost that much. If any of you guys and gals have done this sport I would love to here about your adventures, Or a good Bull Sh** story is ok too
There is not enough money in the world to pay me to ever go and noodle..!! You have got to be nuts to stick your arm in a hole just to get it gnawed on.I don't know about you but I like to keep my fingers....lol
I have been involved in several noodling expeditions, and I will say this, I am not crazy enough to attempt it! getting bitten by a snapping turtle, or a water moccasin, is not my cup of tea.

Where is Soonerborn? I talked with him about noodling when we met at Seabee's house this spring. He's been there-- done that. I told him I was just a wimp when it came to sticking my hand where I didn't know where it's going and being underwater to boot. I don't think I mentioned anything about him being nuts.
like the man said.
i dont care HOW poor you are.
you can afford a fishin pole!
there isnt enough cheap booze in my county to get me to do that.
10-4, Billy. I grew up poor in the Ozarks and had lots of kinfolk who noodled. But it didnt matter how poor we were we always had our cane poles and bleach bottles!

lol sounds pretty crazy to me. my uncle does the same thing here for snappers, he is nuts but a very avid outdoorsman, and he still has ten fingers. he simple reaches under feelin for movement then feels again til he finds the tail i guess. idno how he aint been bit yet. he got about 3 last week, one was MASSIVE i couldn't believe it,, he weighed it i forget the weight tho...anyway, turtle soup! lol
My Dad and some of my Uncles used to do this when I was growing up and they brought up some pretty big yellowcats(flatheads). Never was my cup of tea though.

Grew up doing it. I would not recommend it unless you go with someone that knows what they're doing. My dad and uncles have hauled 60, 70 pounders. We also do alot of bowfishing. Took these paddlefish last weekend on the Red River.
