Picked up a barely used MK III, 51/2 inch pistol today. Came with everything that was included, plus an extra magazine. Can't wait to go shoot it !! What do they sell for new down there ??

I picked up a MK III a few days ago. Haven't shot her yet. On the pistol it says "MK III HUNTER" on the right side, and on the left it says:
-TARGET MODEL-
RUGER 222/45 MK III
Now thw Instruction Manual says on the front "Standard, Target, Government Target, Competition, Hunter, and 22/45 Models. The case sticker lists it as catalog No. P512SHMKIII. SOOOO, I guess it's grip angle accounts for the 22/45, Target for adjustable sights, but why is it a hunter ??

Yes, the grip angle is to duplicate a 1911 pistol while the other kind of Mk.III duplicates a Luger grip. "Hunter" models come with a long, stainless, fluted barrel and HiViz sights. "Competition" models have Patridge sights, and a long, stainless barrel that is flat on the sides.
There is the dilemna. Mine is a blued model with fluted barrel, target sights, not hi-viz. I am wondering if it was made prior to the introduction of the hi-viz sight ??

If it is a Mk.III with loaded-chamber indicator, it was not made prior to HiViz sights. When you say "fluted" you do not mean tapered, do you? The Mk.III "target" version has a heavy, tapered barrel and Patridge sights. It could also be a custom barrel installed by someone other than Ruger.
P.S., I just remembered you are talking about the 22/45. I don't know as much about those as the Luger-shaped all-steel Mk.IIIs.
