So, which action-chick can bring the hurt?

Interesting article: ABC News: Ultra-Slender 'Wanted' Jolie May Be Bad Influence

Talks about Angelina Jolie in Wanted and how ultra-thin she looks while portraying someone dangerous.

You look at the accompanying pic and her arms are twigs. No muscle definition at all. I wouldn't be afraid of being hit by her in the least.

So I was wondering...what actresses have you all seen who actually seem tough? When you see them fighting it doesn't look like their opponents should even be feeling it. I mean, Kate Beckinsale is very attractive, but I can't really believe she'd be worth anything in a fight.

I'll start.

Linda Hamilton, especially in T2. Nice shoulders, strong arms, handled the weapons in the movie like she was comfortable with them, she looked like if she hauled off and hit you, you'd stay hit.

Michelle Yeoh. Notwithstanding that she really does know how to fight, particularly with weapons, she has a lean, compact build and moves with total self-assurance. She's built a bit on the small side (unsurprisingly), but keeps herself in spectacular condition.

Cynthia Rothrock. She's done tons of those mid-80s chop-socky films. Has a naturally lighter build, but very powerful for all that. She is actually a five-time undefeated World Karate champion in forms and weapons. Keep in mind that is not a sex-segregated category.

Sigourney Weaver. Skinny, but for some reason she strikes me as a scrapper. The eye-gouging, pipe-swinging, vicious sort of fighter. Wiry and tough.

Demi Moore in GI Jane. Not a big fan of her as an actress, honestly. But she trained like crazy for the role and it showed. Definitely had the look of someone who could pass the physical quals.

That's a start. So who else? No rails, no pulchritude. Who's tough?

Michelle Rodriguez! She's got for real muscles and definition, good reflexes, and enough time in the drunk tank to have picked up some tricks!

I'm not a huge movie-goer, but I do have a comment.

I saw Jodie Foster in person once and I couldn't believe how short she was...and she looked like she'd have to carry 4 gallons of milk, soaking wet, to hit a buck-o-nothing.

If she hit me, I'd look for the flyswatter.

I also saw Nicolas Cage in the airport once and I remember thinking I would kick his butt...kind of a thin, dweeby looking guy in person.

Hollywood uses some pretty good magic to turn these people into something they're not.

With all that said, I wouldn't mind wrestling around with Angelina...I might let her win for a while.

What about Uma? Kill Bill variety?

You have to add Summer Glau to the list. The action stunts she did in Firefly and in Serenity did not require a stunt double. Summer is a trained dancer and has amazing coordination and flexibility. Her inventory of kick moves is remarkable. It's not all about upper body strength.

Sigourney Weaver in the movie "Aliens" - early on she's skinny and dweeby - doesn't look her actual six foot height.
By the time she's toting the guns on her way to rescue Newt, she's buff! She had obviously done some working out during filming.
Ever watch that movie in a theatre? When she comes out in the powered lifter, and does that karate move - the audience ALWAYS goes wild! They know she's about to kick major Alien bootay!

The Colonial Marine, Vasquez - now SHE is one I'd not want to offend - she could break most men. Sexy-buff!

In the movie Starship Troopers II (much lousier than the original!) the female seargent is buff! I wouldn't PO her on a dare!

I'd chance holding a donut in front of Rosie O - I'm betting I can outrun that slug. She makes Jabba the Hut look good.

I cannot believe I forgot Jenette Goldstein. She was also Diamondback in Near Dark. Those were her first two movie roles, too. Hell of an actress.

Go watch the bar fight in Serenity and tell me that again. And that's even before she takes on 20 Reivers in the finale. That girl can fight in a way that would give Wolverine pause.
