Amen brother. THIS is what you'll get if we elect McCain.

GM, I was speaking in regard to gun shows. I've never purchased hazmat-style stuff that needed to be shipped (I don't like surcharges). I've always bought my components @ shows.... so there's no need, I would suppose, for you to HIGHLY disagree. I'm not going to argue with you -- no time nor desire.

I hunt and target shoot with 2 state troopers and have for many years... they both have told me there are NO statutes that specifically mention keeping the ammunition separate from the firearm itself. But if it's in a magazine, the magazine has to be out of the gun... and in a case designed for a firearm. You're postulating a myth.

They're on forums, also... and when we're at the range, the topic of discussion nearly always comes back to the most humorous things we've read on the net since our last gathering. Quite often, it's people arguing in hostile tones debating a topic they've done absolutely no research on, or have any first-hand experience in. "Magazine Stored Separately" is no term in any Illinois state statute related to transportation of a firearm. There may be city or county statutes that differ, however... but the magazine stored OUT of the weapon DOES comply with the law as written, provided it's in a case. As always, check with your local authorities to confirm your city or county laws haven't been modified or aren't in conformance with IL state statutes.
Finished with this thread..... lest someone HIGHLY DISAGREE on a point that I had not even addressed. I swear... one would think some folks are making a living arguing online. Life's short... too short and precious to waste fighting with someone I've never met nor have any regard for.

All we have in Clark County, NV is a Gun Registration Card (or, "Blue Card") for handguns. All it does is certify the weapon described on the back is registered to me. Handguns only, only Clark County. With it I can waive the waiting period for handgun purchases (though not the BG check) since it proves I already have one.

It's paper, it's supposed to stay with me or the weapon when it isn't at home. I really ought to laminate it sometime.

Ok GlennM, I apologize, I was unaware or I missed that point in your thread, but now that you say this, I've never been to a gun show in Illinois, so I then of course probably wouldn't know this as I've never even thought of going to a gun show to even look up any info on them other then where and when they are and because I know for a fact I'd find multiple things I want and due to Illinois' waiting period, it would no longer be worth it to me. And, you're kidding me, you can't by powder/primers or certain other reloading equipment, other then as you said brass and whatever it was? That, I did not know. I'd be curious to know why not or the reasoning behind it? I mean, what difference would there be in buying this stuff from a gun show then at a store like say Bass Pro or other gun shop? I mean, if it's to prevent one from doing something stupid with the powder/primers, if that were what someone had in mind, they'd already have it or get it elsewhere, not go to a gun show to get it. Besides, 90% or more of people go to gun shows to find deals or hard to find stuff don't they?

Again, sorry for the error/confusion.

Wait is buying supplies at a gun show cheaper then buying supplies at BP or Cabelas?

Yes you now have to have a foid card for muzzle loaders and get this any air rifle that shoots a projectile over 1000 fps and both requir a 24 hour waiting period.

Another example of the differences between one state and another. In California most black powder rifles and revolvers aren't regulated as firearms; you can buy one over the counter and take it with you. And Walmart has 1200 fps air rifles setting on open shelves along with the Red Ryder BB guns; they aren't even in display cabinets or behind a counter. I think they require you to be 18, but I don't know if that's a law or just store policy.

California's gun laws are seriously screwed up in some ways. But in other ways, they're surprisingly live-and-let-live.
