@$$*%$ Got me again!!!

I don't know how these Pukes are doing it, But I am again the victim of Identity/Credit Card theft...this is the 4th time...
Today I got a bill from a Card I have had paid off for months and it had like 6 charges that I tracked to of all things...Porn Sites. I live in the Alaska wilderness, my credit Cards are not accessible to anyone, even my GF, and I do not use them on the Internet unless it is a very secure site and normally a company I have done business with in the past primarily for Gun parts and Gunsmith supplies. How are these people getting My card Number and exp. date ???
My receipts and papers are either piled in Boxes or Burned here at Home.
Any clues ? I want some Butt to kick!

Do you eat out any?
Restaurants are a prime place for CC theft, especially if the wait persson takes your card to "process" it. Colton's Steak House has had several incidences here in MO and AR. That's where they got mine.

I had charges right after buying stuff from a gun site. (won't mention which one, since I can't prove it was their security hiccup... but suspect it was)

They tried to buy 2 airline tickets and one of the locations of the orders was the middle East, the other was London. I'm sure you can guess where my mind went as to who was doing this.... Fortunately, my account was less than half of just one of the ticket charges so neither went-through and I was contacted and the charges weren't held against me and everything got cleared away. I haven't gone back to that website and haven't had an issue since.

I don't put any anything financial on my computer, and I don't buy anything with a card on the net, I'll send M.O. Have you used any card at a corner store? Check to see if your financial institution has had their records breached. My wife is still getting calls about someone with her name, they ask if the last numbers of SS are hers and she says no. I read on survival monkey.com that Mexican nationals are going back to Mexico in droves asking for papers to enroll their kids in Mexican schools. They will leave all their past due bills here. This is really getting nuts. Some companies are letting foreign companies process your bills.

I know with the hard economy & such, this may not be feasible to some, but I pay yearly for equifax's identity theft protection. It alerts us when a credit card or any type of inquiry has been made using our SS #. It alerts us before we get any bills. Then we can dispute through them, if needed.

My bank is pretty good, too. I have it password protected & it cannot be accessed via phone (downside is that I can't access it that way neither!). They have called me several times when they suspected "unusual"transactions. (Just another avenue for you to ensure is protected).

Try & remember the last place/site you purchased from using that particuliar card. It may help you to better pinpoint where the breach may be at.
Good luck....I can imagine how awful identity theft is.

The funny thing is this Card is an ID Theft monitored card and they didn't catch it and call me...a small charge every day for 6 days! I do NOT do online banking either...

Of course it doesn't matter who you buy from, if they have an accounting person that is a thief they haven't found out yet, they could be using your credit card number for stuff. And they would even have the three digit code on the back.

Moose I too have been hit. In my case they set up a paypal account in my name and charged 500 on my credit card if it were not for the fact I go through all my transactions I might not have noticed it on my visa.

Been there, done that. The credit card company caught it for us and the merchants had to eat the $7,000 charges for what the credit card company approved. I wanted somebody's hide on the fence, as I'm sure you all did. I figure I got hit at a restaurant so, it's all cash now.

And, for at least 5 or 6 years I have been getting calls from bill collectors about another guy in the same town with the same name EXCEPT a different middle initial. I'm in the phone book and he's not. Most of the bill collectors are OK to deal with but I had to involve the Attorney General of Illinois to get one of them to stop hasseling me. I want this guy really bad. He's in the paper on a regular basis being arrested for DUI, and all sorts of other stuff. The credit card companies have themselves to blame since they keep giving him cards. Just wish they'd leave me the hell out of it.

Oh, by the way, I work for a securities institution and our IT security people don't believe using credit cards on the internet is safe enough for them to use it so, I'm not going to either.

Just don't give out any numbers out to these people. Let them ask the question and say no. If they go further than that call the FTC and your local AG. As the economy slips further this is going to be on the increase. If you verify the source please let us know.
