BATFE Audit shows negligence

According to the article on CNN.com, the BATFE's recent audit showed that over the past five years they have lost 418 computers and 176 service weapons. Of those weapons, several were used in crimes. If they can't maintain their own weapons, why the he!! are they in charge of regulating our ownership!?! I repeat what I think, "Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency."

Oh and did I mention that many of those computers had sensitive information on them!? Maybe C&R or 01FFL Licensee information!? Personal information!? I say they should be held accountable for this....

Funny thing. When the military has computers go missing from the Pentagon with war plans info on them, or some retail chain has laptops disappear with credit information on them, it leads on the evening news. But when it's the BATFE that loses information on gun stores, C&R licensees and such, it barely registers? What's wrong with this picture?

Could it possibly be the mainstream media does not want to have it be known that a government agency is being run by incompetents? Or is it just that they don't want Federal regulation of firearms to come up on the campaign radar in a way that does not show the regulators in a positive light?

I think we sometimes give the media and other groups entirely too much credit for having and following an agenda, when the truth is that they're just bumbling along.

I don't think it's a matter of what they "want." I'd say they just don't believe it's an important story, on the level of one involving national security or the personal info of hundreds of thousands of customers. Of course that makes them idiots instead of conspirators, which might be even worse...

All FFL's should post that article over the area where the BATF sits to audit you. They need their license to operate revoked!

The BATF, IRS and DEA shouldn't exist. They are monsters born of opportunity.

I agree. I would've posted the link to the article but I was trying to follow the guidelines Chris set down. I believe that the article is still on the main page at cnn.com though...

Or could it be possible that the reporter was afraid of the heat that might come into his/her personal life for bringing the story to light showing the bumbling inefficiency of the BATF?
Or could the word have came down that the media ownership did not want this story to run?
