Sit down in class or be taken down.

Florida considering use of force in classroom - News - MSNBC.com

"LEE COUNTY: A teacher's ability to control students could get more physical. In an effort to maintain safe classrooms, the Florida Board of Education is considering giving teachers more physical power to control students by using 'reasonable force.'"

"The proposed rule says reasonable force is defined as appropriate physical response necessary to maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.
It should not be used as an instrument for the educator's anger or frustration with a situation or student or students.
And only minimal force may be used to control the situation."

I like this!

Now, we ditch the other zero tolerance nonsense and we're back in business.

with handgun backup.
a lot of those "kids" are dangerous criminals and if they are not now they will be.
many of those students are a lot bigger/stronger than the average teacher.

Well, they're not going to allow corporal punishment (or General Mayhem, or Sergeant Hatred) but they will apparently allow restraint and takedowns and such.

How will that work for women and small male teachers. I'm all for it but it sounds like they'll be the ones getting their butts kicked.

i do agree that some students are criminals and are dangerous. im a junior in high school and in my school and every school in the area this is not a good idea, alot of students in my school could easily turn around and sit the teacher back down...... in my opinion a teacher has no right to lay his hands on any student. now yes i understand that if it is in self defense of the teacher or another student they should have some right to stop it. im cool with most of my teachers and we can screw around and prank each other and there are a few that i realy dont like, but in everyones best interest i think it should just stay at in self defense only

thats a good start. if the kids learn discipline before they get bigger than the teachers, they will not be as much problem when they get into high school. when I went to school in the 50's &60's the Dean's paddle was something to be feared. kept my fat ass in line.

Maybe we spoke too soon about that "rationality" thing:

kare11.com | Twin Cities, MN | Tool from teen's job gets him suspended from high school

High school kid has a box cutter in his car because he uses it for his job.

Here's the fun part:

"District spokesperson Sarah Schwartz told KARE 11 school officials can't comment on individual student discipline cases, but referred to the district's policy on weapons.
It bans 'possession, use and/or transmission' of a weapon or 'any object that can reasonably be considered a weapon.'
Examples given are knifes, real or immitation firearms, explosives, incendiary devices and any other object which can be used to harm a person.
The policy flatly says any student found in violation will be immediately suspended, and expulsion proceedings will be launched automatically."

I have a tire iron in my car I'm reasonably sure I can kill someone with.

Besides...aren't schools full of...pencils?

Lemme show you a magic trick...

i have forgot and carried my knife in school a couple of times. several of my classmates carry knifes in school all the time, althought it is a private school they are still not allowed. i think even if the teachers found out they wouldnt do anything unless someone threatens to use it or does.

i remember the paddle, dude i did not sit down all day after that. its about time they put "punishment" back into school. those punks in class will think twice if they walk up to the teacher, cussing them out and the teacher turns around and takes them to the floor with an arm bar or a CIT move like they use for DD clients.

No kidding, I could just use my truck! I don't see how a gun would be more dangerous than a truck. way more people die in car accidents each year than the total number of shootings or stabings combined. I guess the schools will have to ban pencils (I like the Joker analogy by the way), large heavy calculators that could do damage when thrown at someone, large books because they can be just as dangerous as those calculators, and vehicles should be there number one priority to get banned. I am pretty sure I could have driven my old cadillac right down the main hall at my old high school and have enough room on both sides. This is getting way to PC for me.
