My "blue book" for this rifle Has a Highest price of $639 New in box for the Model 1895M lever action. There are 5 different models. three are lever actions, one is a lever action repeater, and one is just a repeater. they range from $189 to the $639 mentioned. I havent had any experience with this rifle though so I couldn't say anything positive or negative about it. Sorry I can't be any more help.

Yes, there are people who love this cartridge and get good shooting it. However, it is not for everyone.
Try before you buy as it is a lot of money should you turn out not to be a .45-70 shooter.
Is it the SS version? What kind of condition is it in, and what does it come with: case, dies, ammo, brass, sling, etc...?
$675 seems a bit too high, unless it comes with several accessories/extras.
Mine is the 1895G blued and was/is in #10 pristine condition. Plus, it came with reloading dies, about 30 rounds of ammo, ammo case, and lots of brass (70+). I paid $425 for it.
I see Marlin 1895 45-70 around here for around $450 on a regular basis, and it's darn tempting to buy another one...

a quick search of auction arms listed the marlin 1895 from $325 to $450 in excellent to fine condition.new was $575 and up.in my opinion $675 is to much.as with all marlins the 1895 is an excellent rifle.
Leroy It's a nice rifle but man I would shop around, I'm sure you can find it at a couple hundred less than that, I have worked at a pawn shop for the last 10 years and I have seen really nice SS 1895's come and go for under 400. and sometimes even alot less than that. happy hunting.
A farm widow down the road has her dead husbands guns for sale and has a Marlin 1895 guide gun with factory ported barrel. wild west ejector and trigger. Comes with a Luepold 1 1/2 X 5 scope for 400.00 dollars. not a scratch on it and comes with factory boxes for both.

my brother and i have been wanting to buy a marlin 1895 45-70. we found one for around $675. what do you think?
Try to find one used for around $ 400 . I bought one weekend before last for that price & saw one at the gun show , this last weekenf , for that price .
Or see what Walley world will order one for ?
They are great fun to shoot , especially if you reload & cast your own bullets .
I bought my first one in the 1970's .
If you shoot cast bullets , the non Microgroove barrel is perfered .

I would give that , even though I do not need another one .
I bought mine new for $550. Afterwards, I bought some of the new Hornady cartridges...the ones with the plastic tips. Please keep in mind I shoot a lot of potent cartridges, but the Marlin sure was a jolt. I shot the box, but I will most likely reload a little lighter. When asked what I was going to hunt with it...I told them groundhogs. I can't imagine how a Guidegun would recoil.

I love the Hornady LeveRevolution catridges in my .45-70.
What I really love, though, is the look on people's faces when I tell them I'm going to hunt "Squirrels.... maybe a raccoon if I see one..."

P.S.
The look on my instructor's face when I put holes in his steel plate with it was priceless, too... "I didn't think a .45-70 would go through that"... hehe... he's going to have a problem patterning his shotguns, now...
