Opinion on Hogue w/ oversized finger groove grips wanted.

Opinion on Hogue w/ oversized finger groove grips wanted.

I had read somewhere that the 1st thing one guy does is put Hogue grips on magnum Ruger.

I have a Ruger SBH and was wondering if these Hogue grips w/ the finger grooves improve the handling of the big gun.

I'm not sure these are Hogue, but this is what I'm talking about:
Ruger Super Blackhawk Grips: grips4guns.com
I like the 6th set going left to right down the page.

This one is a Hogue. Look at the grips, not the gun.

Thanks,

You might want to get a rubber set with finger groove instead of wood? Maybe you are? Only said that because your link, first one anyhow goes to a page with wooden and plastic grips. I found when my hand would and did sweat a lot and it got real slippery. I have a S&W model 66 Combat and I ended up with a set of Pachmayr Decelerator rubber grips w/finger grooves and they've worked out great.

Also, unless you have large fingers, you don't really need the large finger grips, the regular or standard should work fine?

This is what I've got on my .357 model 66:>
Welcome to Pachmayr

Grips style is kind of subjective. Depends on what you like, the size of your hand and hand/arm strenght. I'm getting arthrites in my right elbow and have changed my shooting style, I use different grips than I did thirty years ago.

The redhawk and blackhawk are totally different grip styles. The sbh is a plow handle grip, meant to roll back in your hand on recoil, if you let it do that it reduces felt recoil. If you go with large grips on the sbh you change the felt recoil.

IMHO, wood grips 'look' better but rubber is more comfortable. I have a set of Rubber Houges on my scoped sbh. My scoped srh uses stock rubber with a checkered insert.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback.

dmwphoto, those are not nearly as expensive as the wooden ones, may as well buy a set and see if I like them (may check ebay). Gonna run by my local gun shop and see if I can grip a set, first.

Thanks

I have had the "pleasure" of shooting a .44mag with rubber grips once. I'm not doing it again!!! Heck, the piece tried to skinn me alive! My hand at least... I find shooting these guns so much better with wooden grips. OK, the revolver "revolves" in my hand, and I have to make a new grip for the next shot. But at least it doesn't hurt so bad!

$75.00 for those grips is a bit pricey IMO. There is a used set at my local gun shop, that is in mint condition, and they're asking $20.00 for them. I'd check your local shops for a decent price before you fork over $75.

Again, thanks. I've made my decision to leave the factory grips on.
