steyr 95 sling swivel

ok,i just got my 95/34 from century.as i'm sure most are, this one was nasty.i disassembled the rifle and the bolt and let them soak in break free clp all night.they cleaned up nicely.now to the stock.my question is;how do you remove the rear sling swivel?what sort of tool is used and can i buy/make it.also i read that you need a magazine or something to load more than one round at a time.i apoligize for these questions as i'm sure threads have already been posted adressing this.

Yes, you need what are called charger clips. The absolute cheapest ones I have found were $2.50 each and only $2.50 more for shipping up to 6 of them, from The Old Western Scrounger. I can't answer your swivel question. I have never tried to remove it.

I ran into the same problem with the swivel bolt when I went to refinish mine. I got tired of looking for a tool that would fit the split-slotted nut so I decided to make one myself out of an old screwdriver using a Dremel tool. (Note: if you don't have a Dremel tool kit by now, you really need to get one. They are invaluable. Variable speed model is worth the few extra bucks).

You will need a flat blade screwdriver that has a blade at least 1/8 inch wider than the bolt shaft that shows inside the slotted nut. Use the Dremel cutting wheel to cut out the inside section of the screwdriver blade (sort of 'U' shaped) about 1/8" deep, leaving about 1/16" of blade left on the ends. Be sure not to cut the outside ends of the blade as this what needs to be left intact in order to fit into the two slots of the nut. It may take a while to grind it down and test-fit it as you go along, but mine works pefectly, took the nut right off and I was able to put it back with no problem.

Good Luck!
