Okay I was think of this cenario in the woods yesterday
Okay the SHTF has already happened, bad the cause is unkown. Some say Revolution, some Invasion and others say Zombies. How it happened is not important. All that is known is 100 Million Americans are dead due to starvation, disease, fighting and the elements.
Okay so you and your family survive, and you make it to your property which is about 85 acres in lets say middle Indiana. There are two other families living in adjacent properties.
All of your families in order to survive have formed a Co Op. Each Father (or male leader) and Mother (or Female Leader) is placed incharge of something agriculture, meat, forestry, first aid, defense etc.
You have been put in charge of providing meat. You have 5 cows (2 bulls and 3 dairy cows), 6 lambs and sheep (3 male 3 female) and about 20 chickens (assorted males and females). You also have deer and other native game to hunt.
The total that the three families own is about 300 acres.
How do you keep fresh meat coming and keep it coming?
Do you shoot all of the deer and leave the farm animals for later or try to live dependent on your farm animals?

well I would try to hunt the deer and antelope? (providing antelope are there not sure) and small game while you let your "domestic" animals reproduce and when there are approx 30 cows and sheep and approx 100 chickens I would start sparingly eat some of them... now since this is my own fantasy I would find pigs from a neighboring farm and release them into the wild as they breed like rabbits and would be a steady source of food from the wild as they can take care of there own... And of course there is crops... Right?
Yes one person would be incharge of that. I don't really know much about the animals I just thought that off the top of my head.
But with so many pigs running around howe do you keep your crops safe?

well you make a place that appeals more to the pigs and I mean actually make it throw some scraps from the table make a waller hole some corn things that are easier pickins than rootin your garden, And if I want to get really nasty (do we have firecrackers?) mess on that... black powder with fuses throw it at them (lit) and when it explodes overhead a few times they will stay away... Worked with my uncle and his garden...
