Anyone tried to install a light gathering front site post on a Mosin?

I have to admit that my eyes are getting older. I'm sure that the rest of me is following suit. Anyway, I went out yesterday and today with three different rifles. I had my Mosin M44, my SKS and my CVA .50 cal. I sighted them in at 50 yds as thats the longest shot I have for practice where I know the bullet will go into a hill. I did the SKS first and it was pretty close to righ on, though getting the front post right on the rear sight is getting tougher. The Mosin is the same way. The CVA has Hi-Viz type sights that are adjustable and I did have to adjust for distance and windagen but they were easy to see and line up with the target. The CVA trigger was also the best. When the .50 goes off there is a definate boom, and the hole is right where I aimed it. I'd like a light gathering sight on the front end of my military rifles as well. Anyone tried it? Thanks. I will post in the SKS forum as well.

Dave

Peep Sights by MOJO Sighting Systems

They make front and rear sights for Mosin Nagants, AK's, SKS's, Mauser and the like...

I think that's what you mean...

If not then... Well I'm sure someone else can help.

I've thought about removing the ft. sight pin, tapping the hole and installing a fiber optic shotgun sight.

Well I would also be interested in a fiber optic type set up on my Mosins. I have shot some fiber optic sights on a muzzle loader, and seen them on shotguns and I like them. It might be a little better on accuracy too. But I don't mind the peep sights much either. I really like them on my Enfield. Let us know if anyone figures anything out about the fiber optic style

I gave up trying to see the back sight a long time ago. I can hit much better at longer ranges with peep sights and a narrow front blade. I like my Enfield sights and my 03A3 sights.

Also, for the SKS don't forget about the Tech sights. They are well made.

I have graduated most of my sights to rear peep. A fiber optic front is the logical next step.

I installed a scope. Too blind for iron sights. although I can do ok with the M39.

What're the advantages to the Fiber Optic sights?

Ya, ya, ya....don't let him fool you. He shot those groups in the background with his scoped bench rest rifle in 308 at 25 yards.

All kidding aside...he shot darn well with that SKS and those sights. Very impressive really.

I had to load it for him but once it was loaded he could hit what he was aiming at!

Fiber optic sights use available light rather than a battery to illuminate the sight. They are brighter and offer a contrasting sight.

That target on the wall? No, no, not an SKS target. It was My Sig P229 with the 40 S&W barrel at 21 feet using a pistol rest. 10 rounds at each circle. The 357 Sig barrel shoots just as well.

By the way, the old 10 round fixed mag is back in my SKS. Don't forget to try the stripper clip I gave you with your SKS next time you shoot it. You'll be amazed how fast you can load that mag.
