Colt Revolver Fetches $800K @ Maine Auction

FOXNews.com - Historic Colt Revolver Sells for $800,000 at Maine Auction - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News

The auction went down about 5 miles from where I live...I should have gone!

Can't see spending that much on a gun...ever...but someone clearly wanted it

Don't put them both up for sale at the same time; you'll break the market and drive prices down.

And I choked about spending $450 for my Walker Colt. Same gun, just 130 years newer.

Sure. That'll happen...I believe it's actually in the party platform: "we will immediately collect all museum-grade antique guns, and destroy them to keep our children safe on the streets."

Don't get carried away, GM.

Haha, yeah, as much as I disagree with Obama's 2nd Amendment stance, I think this gun is safe.

I seriously wouldn't doubt it. There are politicians I don't trust, and there are crazy radical politicians that I DON'T TRUST. Obama is the second of the two. According to his voting record and not his lie of a BS plan, My father will lose his job as soon as that defense budget is cut to nothing. He says so many lies that it makes me sick every time I even hear his name. I used to not really care because he was just another politician but he is not the average left or right winger. I hope I am very wrong but I think he is a dangerous man and will do no good for this country.

sorry to make it politicalI shouldn't have done that.

Anyway, back to the main thread, I don't understand why you would pay that much for a gun. I guess it is worth it in the beholders mind. I wonder if the auction closed and he thought to himself, "What did I just do and why did I do that?!!"

Reading MSNBC is like getting your news from the national enquirer or Globe! As long as you read it and understand that it is probably not true, keep reading!

Obviously it is worth it or the dude wouldn't have ponied up the loot! The value of any item is determined by what a willing buyer will pay a willing seller. In this case it was a very unique item and well worth the expense to the buyer.
I,personally, have never been able to buy a firearm at a public auction. They usually go for crazy prices but I cannot second guess the buyer. He obviously knows something I don't.

Back in 1994, I decided to relocate. In order to fund the move I had an auction. I even auctioned off my home! I also had nearly 40 firearms that I sold at the auction. I had some Mosin Nagant rifles that I bought 3 for $100 shipped, they sold for as much as $100... each. There was also a JC Higgins bolt action 12 ga. shotgun that I pulled out of a garbage can. It was total junk and could not even chamber a round let alone fire it... it bought $60 .
Sorry for the rant... I am totally wasted with all the election BS.
