Conservatives Protest Home Depot’s P.F.L.A.G. Donation

Home Depot, the home-improvement chain, appears to be in “damage control” mode after making a $2,500 gift to Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). Shortly after getting the grant, PFLAG began offering Home Depot gift cards in exchange for donations, calling it a “Father’s Day Special.” A gay magazine, The Advocate, quoted a company vice president saying the donation was “a wonderful Father’s Day gift” and “a great opportunity for Home Depot to support PFLAG’s work.”

While Home Depot is downplaying the situation, a company spokesperson would not retract or deny that quote. Regina Griggs with the group, Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays, has a problem with that position. “The money isn't being used to counsel the family as to the reasons their child is struggling with same-sex attraction,” said Griggs. “[Nor is it being used to tell] the truth that they are not born that way and there is a way out.”

Home Depot spokeswoman Mandy Holton said the company has received hundreds of calls, e-mails and customer comments. While not crediting that outpouring for the change, Holton said Home Depot would likely not send more money to PFLAG.

Bob Knight, with the Culture and Family Institute of Concerned Women for America, said the gay group is using Home Depot’s support for a symbolic purpose. “(Home Depot) has a very staid, traditional image, and, for them to give money to a radical gay rights organization is a way for the gay rights people to gain credibility,” Knight said.

While Home Depot said it stipulated the money go to counseling, Holton admitted PFLAG used it to purchase the gift cards.

Now when you make a statement research it and post it MarkII, don't be lazy and just say "some organization" okay? I ain't picking on you, just trying to help you. :right: Thats a big statement to just leave flapping in the wind. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I had forgot all about it. I try to get what I can from the corner mom and pop hardware stores that are left anyways.

Im still hung up on Mark es quoat "My sister works there. Thats how I know." ...want to tell us about your sisters? got any video tape???? Course we could point fingers all over the place. The NRA gets support from a group called the PINK PISTOLS a Pro gun lobby for homosexuals.... also I got to admit a 2500$ donation is not very much $$ for home depot...so its not like 10% of their proffits are going to a cause.....but if you prefer to express you disaproval for their actions..then dont spend $$ there...that is how to get companies to respond (course it helps if you ger a large number of people to boycot the place).

(I got to admit a 2500$ donation is not very much $$ for home depot...so its not like 10% of their proffits are going to a cause... - Doglips.) That IS a far cry from a Million dollars for sure. I didn't see any other organizations listed.

Im just not that politicaly motavated..I get a list of compnaies, organzations..canafates that I should boycot from almost every organzation I belong to.....some times the organzation are on each others list .....Between the ultra conservative list and the libral organzations (soical work jurnels) I am pretty sure I should not shop anywere...buy any product....or eat anything but pure water and sunshine......lots of companies make donations to diffrent groups....the homosexuals are a very large market and I can understand companies wanting EVERYONE to spend $$ on their products.
along these lines FORD ran an advertisement in a "Gay" newspapera nd magazines.....the add was mentioned in several of my marketing courses textbooks.....the add showed 2 guys loading a ford taures wagon in front of a typical family house....the caption "The perfect Family car".....well us hetrosexuals seen the same add and "Assumed" the 2 guys were loading the car whell the women were in the kicthen cooking....to Gay community "read into" the same add that FORD was acknoweldgeing that the 2 men were a "family" and sales went through the roof......the advertisement is often studies..quoated...ect as a way for companies to attract new customers whell not offending the existing customer base....like it or not...politcal belifes aside companies are in the business of makeing $$$$ and if they can get gays...peta...gun nuts....who ever to come shop at the store with a slick add that inplys what the reader chooses to imply or can get people to spend 100x more than the token amount they donated to ANY group then its a good investment for a company. Guess I dont see a big deal about the donation...just like I find it amuseing that so many of my Fellow Jews drive a German Car (Mercadies) to the synagog on Friday nights.... and the number of WWII vets that drive Japanease cars.

Mark I am aware of that and that was not recently. There are a lot of big companies who support gays with way more money then H.D.
AT&T, Disney, Coca Cola and the list goes on. Doglips a 50' costs $33.34 total = rental + damage waiver and tax. What was your total cost? And course cleaning fee if you bring it back nasty.
