CCW two pistols at once?

Anyone here in the practice of carrying 2 pistols at a time?

If so, what and where?

I personally only CCW one at a time, but I keep hearing the "gunfighter mantra" of "two is one/one is none".

I know the idea is sound, but I am having trouble grasping the necessity of it.

Well coming from a different perspective, I live in Phx, AZ and one of my business' deals alot in cash so when I collect I always have atleast one on and one in the truck (easily accessible) Others may beg to differ but I consider accuracy the best trait, if you are facing a gang, the first one will be no problem, the second guy will be harder to hit and the third and up will be running so fast you'll never see them to get a shot, lol. Jsut remember........DO NOT depend on knock down power, always depend on bullet placement.

Interesting idea. Knowing nothing specific about it, I'd guess that with one gun you could place one accurate shot in the time you could place two "within the silhouette" (at best) shots with two guns at the same time.

Of course, if you drop one gun it would be nice to have a backup (I.E. only draw the second one if you lose the first), but that might be a bit cumbersome for CC all the time.

I see nothing wrong with packing two. You just never know what could happen to the highest quality of weapons. Your primary weapon could malfunction, regardless what make it is. That could leave you stuck in a fire fight holding a paper weight, at that point you would draw you secondary sidearm putting you back in the fight.

If I carried 2, I wouldn't carry as much so I just normally go with one. If I were doing something other than just "Joe CCW" I'd consider it.

I do have a separate car gun from carry gun. Carry guns for me are sometimes to difficult to get to while driving.

TXplt,

I have a fanny pack that I use to carry a Glock 23 + spare mag., IPOD, cell phone, wallet, and flashlight. I use this whenever I just run out to the store or long trips when belt carry would be uncomfortable. I don't strap it on, it is kind of a grab bag. Is this similar in nature to your car gun, or do you have a dedicated pistol in your car?

The idea of carrying two pistols would be for 1) a backup in case of a malf. and 2) being that the fastest reload is another gun. I apologize for not stating my question properly.

Freebooter I agree for the very reasons you stated,a gun can stop working at any time and a 2nd gun is faster than a reload in most cases. But remember you must carry the weight of 2 guns.

Hi Guys, when your life is on the line I think that there is no such thing as being over armed,
(I know the responces i will get on this but you gotta look at the big picture)
The average scene If you should use your weapon, most likely it will end up in court - the Dead guys family lawyers are gonna do everything possible to make you look like the bad guy, thats expected and is tough enough , But when it is reported that you were packing more then one gun, jesus joseph and mary you were a mad dog out looking for a fight. and thing will get twice as bad for you to defend.

Welcome, btw to the site ! Lotsa great folks here.

I have a dedicated car gun (taurus judge) for fast access, as well as carry my CCW gun (Smith 325 or Sig 220) on my person. The good thing is that, with a dedicated car gun, it'll always be close by and accessable while travelling (and it can sometimes double as a CCW if you've errantly left your primary gun at home--it'll fit in my fanny pack which is always in the car as well). I sometimes do carry the Smith in a fanny pack like it sounds you do (which I consider to be an excellent idea if you're just going to the store, wearing sweats, shorts, etc), although I usually carry the Smith with Galco and shirt or jacket over. It sounds like your fanny pack idea is a great one, because it has everything you need and you can conveniently just grab it and go--no hassles so you're likely to always "have a gun" as well as flashlight, permit, phone, etc.

I agree a second gun is an excellent idea as a backup for a malfunction or fast reload (it's greatly advocated by many firearms trainers); for me personally it would be too cumbersome and bulky to keep 2 guns on my person, as well as keep both secure at all times when putting them on and off--and might result in my not carrying all the time I legally can. For me, it's very important to carry wherever and whenever legally possible--I view a firearm as a piece of safety equipment just like a seat belt.

Welcome again and cheers

Sometimes I carry a five shot .357 revolver in my pocket and a .45 caliber derringer in an ankle rig.

I used to think about carrying two full size 1911s ala the pulp heroes like the Shadow or the Spider but common sense and gravity put an end to that....

There is good and bad to the idea; personally I'd carry 2 if I know if 1) I am traversing through a "questionable" area, 2) if I am spending a day hiking in the woods, 3) these Colorado wintertime roadtrips.

I also like the idea of having a "car" weapon, just in case.

To all that have a "car" pistol, how to you secure it? Glovebox? Lockbox under the seat? Or is it just out of site?

Privateer- I completely agree with your reasoning. All of my pistols are stock and I only use factory ammo for a "clean" defense if I end up in court. Of course carrying two pistols might make you look like you were out looking for a fight.

Massad Ayoob is one of the guys I met that carries two pistols. He had a Glock 23 on his belt strong side, and carried a pocket Glock(not sure what model) in his front pants pocket. He concealed them well. The other guy is a firearms instructor and he carried a SIG in a IWB strong side and a snubbie revolver in a cross draw. Being a smaller guy, he looked like he had a tire around his waist. Okay, maybe an exaggeration, but he was printing.

I think the .45 cal. derringer in an ankle holster that sunwheel29 brought up has some merit as a back up. Thanks for the input.

The only time I have carried two handguns at the same time was a cop on duty. I carried my duty gun and a back-up. When hunting I usualy carry a hand gun, some times concealed, as well has the long gun I am hunting with.
The 'car gun' sounds fine, if you don't leave it unattended in the vehicle!
MANY GUNS ARE TAKEN FROM UNATTENDED VEHICLES.

I'm more for carrying EXTRA MAGAZINES!! two mags still take up less space than another gun...

All of the officers that my brother works with carry a secondary weapon on their ankle, be it a baby glock or a revolver. You never know what might happen, and it will happen at the worst possible moment. You can never be too careful I always say.
