I am interested and very close to purchasing a security six for nightstand duty.........how easy/possible is it to change the front site to nite site/or something?
i don't believe anyone makes a night sight for the six so if that is what you want, it would be a custom job to get one.
my opinion---which might not account for much---is that night sights are over-rated.
Agreed. A side arm used in a dark house at night will generally be used point shooting in low light conditions at an assailant or intruder at a distance of “acrosstheroom.” In other words, you won’t be using your sights.
My first duty weapon many years ago was a stainless 4" barrel Ruger Police Service Six in .357 Magnum. I could point shoot undertime at twelve yards in low light conditions with just a little practice. I wish I had that Ruger today.
Presently we keep a 3" Smith & Wesson Model 64 with .38 spl. Golden Sabers by the bed stand, and a 26" barrel 12 gauge Browning BPS with #7's in the corner. The rest of the arsenal is locked in the safe.
In truth, for what your buying it for, you're better off just getting a Crimson Trace laser grip for it. As the others have mentioned, in that situation you'll just be pointing and with a laser grip, where the laser goes, so does the bullet...Just make sure it's an intruder you'll be shooting and not a wife or child, if you're not single. A flashlight is also another great tool to have with you along with your cell phone or home phone.

I'm not sure and if not, this is where one of those so-so universals might come in handy? One of the trigger guard mounted ones that is? I'm not a fan of them, but better then nuttin'? Hopefully, Crimson makes one?
I think the CT laser grip is great for a bed side gun, they do not offer one for the security six. A company called Bright Sights makes a luminescent coatings you could try on the front sight.

You're talking nightstand duty, not target shooting. With a little Yankee ingenuity, you could likely mount a small laser to the barrel that would work just fine. The only accuracy you would need would be about 6" across your longest distance in the house.
I mount a Streamlight Scorpion flashlight to my 10/22 with a couple of plastic bags and some duct tape. It works great with just a little fiddling to get it aligned so it shines where the scope points. It's wonderful for after dark pest elimination -- raccoons and 'possums -- and leaves no marks on either the light or the gun when I take it off. Takes about 5 minutes to put it on when I think I'll need it.
You could easily do something similar with a small laser pointer for under $10. It wouldn't be real pretty, but in the dark, who's going to criticize the way your gun looks, the bad guy??

I have one I carry and use for nightstand duty. I dont' have anything fancy attached to it, just keep a flashlight next to the gun. Plus I live on a boat, there is only one way in, and it's just the right size for a single person to enter and be a target.
