Variety Report: Beauregard Sweet Potatos

Ok, this spring as an experiment I planted 6 slips of Beauregard sweet potato.

This fall we harvested them. The first meal cooked with 'em was for the Feast of St. Michael. They were cooked by tossing them into the top of the smoker for about an hour. In the words of one of our guests, "It's like biting into flavored sugar. Nothing was added to them.

From 6 slips We got about 25 pounds of yams--roughly a 10-1 return.

This is a variety that will be repeated next year, for sure. If you can grow them in your area, these are really good! the soil we put them in was heavy clay, and they were treated with a benign neglect--and were the only pest free part of the garden this year.

Oh--we live in the ohio valley, and I think these would grow well as far north as indianapolis for sure, and probably lake michigan. They were slow starting in the spring but by the end of june they were aggressivly growing.
