A most unusual rifle. Buy one if you can.

Got one today at Big Five for 75 bucks. Not all matching but I'd call it excellent condition Can't pick it up for 10 days.

But it scratched my itch and also made me think of when I could get Turk Mausers for a little less than that and how happy I am now that I bought them. And reminded me of when m44s were about 50 bucks - Polish, Romanian or Russian, and VZ24s were under a hundred and about other long gone prices I could not afford at that time but really really wish I'd been able to get in on.

Poor Kommie Kalifornia sufferer.

Did you get some ammo? It ain't easy to find and it ain't cheap. That's why I reload mine.

Also you need charger clips unless you want to load them single shot. Cheapest place I've seen them is The Old Western Scrounger at $2.50 each and only $2.50 more for shipping up to six at a time.

Yep, the Scrounger stocks them, that's where I'll order from. As for ammo, I'll get some when I can - got plenty of other guns to shoot while I search - but I just can't see NOT firing this one just to see how stiff the recoil really is. Should be fun.

My coworker just asked me about this rifle today. I am not familiar with it all. He said it's 8mm. I didn't think that 8mm mauser was that hard to come by. Is it not a common 8mm mauser ammo? Please enlighten me on the rifle.

For $80.00 I don't think someone could go wrong. I suggested he look at a Mosin but he found this and was wanting to know about it. He said it was short and that's what attracted him because the mosin was just too long for what he wanted.

This is a different animal than the 8mm mauser - it uses an entirely different round, 8x56R. Expensive compared to the mauser ammo. DO NOT attempt to fire 8mm mauser rounds through one of these.

If your friend wants an inexpensive shooter, why not a Mosin M44 next time Big Five has them on sale? Not as long as the M91/30 and costs a lot less to shoot.

The 8X56R uses a 0.330" bullet. An 8mm Mauser uses a 0.323" bullet

Graf and Sons has both the bullets and the cases for reloading them. They aren't much more to reload than any other high power round.

Cool

My local big 5 has the Styer on sale. I was wondering about the straight pull back bolt. How does it lock? While I was there I saw a 91/30 for $89. My neighbor was jealous about the one I just got so I told him about it and went with him to buy it. He now owns a matching #, 1942 Izzy 91/30! I also showed him this site and hopefully he will be on line with us soon.

Steyr Mannlicher M95 bolt has a separate head with two frontal locking lugs; bolt head was inserted into the bolt body from the front. Bolt body has internal spiral-shaped ribs, with matching spiral-shaped cuts in the tail of the bolt head. These ribs and cuts forced the bolt head to rotate on the pull of the bolt body, locking and unlocking the action.

Guess what I just got for Christmas?!! A Hungarian m-95. I can't identify the year. What I need to know is how does the bolt come out? I'll have to post pics when cleaned up, And I get a good enough camera.

Yep, different ammo. 8mm mauser is .323". 8X56R is .330"...and rimmed. 8X56R is way harder to come by. That's why I reload it.

Ammo is a bitch to find. I also need to find the clips for it. Anyone know where to find them?
