Rave you're correct, I was told by a tech at Beretta that the testing they did, they got about 150fps more. I was also told by this tech that in their testing they got 1075fps with a 180gr .40S&W. And I believe that was at the muzzle. He didn;t say and I forgot to ask. I don't think it was or would have been at 50yds.
Seven, I placed my order. I decided to go with the .40S&W. Out the door was $650 and he threw in the rail. This is the model that takes the 96 mags and doesn't come with the rail but he's giving it to me in that price.
For $115 more I could have gotten the other version in .45acp, that's the one that comes with the rail and takes the PX4 14 round mags.
No worries though, I found some 20 round 96 mags for it so. A 3pk for $49.47.

GM, I didn't get off in time to get mine ordered last week. The dude requires a deposit. I'm leaning toward one like yours because it will shoot the mags you found.

Besides, I kind of like the look of just the barrel sticking out. But that's just me. lol Besides, I'd rather put the money towards a scope?

But instead, I voted for the .45acp as it is what I really wanted. The higher cost is why I chose not to at this time. But I also figure, if I'm going to get something like this in a .45acp, I'm just going to go ahead and get one of the newer Thompsons. lol

Pistol not being the 1911 model, but the carbine w/o the stock and shorter barrel.

I've got a CX4 in .40 S&W and love it. Added the top rail and a Simmons 35mm. red dot. Works great and you can co-witness the iron sights (they look through the glass) in case the red-dot goes bad.
As for power and velocity. I shoot mostly hand-loads. My favorate is a load I developed for bowling pins with my .40 High Power. 180 gr. Rainier plated flat-point over Longshot powder. Crono's just over 1200 FPS out of the High Power and about 1360 from the CX4. This means the factory estimate of +150 FPS is right on. I don't think there are many .45s that will rivel that power. Do the math, a 180 @ 1360 FPS., that's up in 10 mm or 357 mag territory.

What's your pistol?
If they're all 1911's, you may want to stick with .45.
Having said that, I would prefer the .40 because you can use high capacity magazines.
I REALLY prefer the 9mm with the 92FS magazines. I use 15-rd mags and get a more speed and a lot more accuracy out of the carbine than my 92 pistol.

OK Seven, here's the manufacturer's link Simmons Optics - Riflescopes - Red Dot
My original post was somewhat off. It is a 42 mm. unit, P/N 800880
Sorry, the ability to remember numbers goes away with age.
Available through Midway and other large mail order suppliers. I got mine at Midway, on sale, for about $30.00
I first used this optic on my Buckmark pistol then mover it to the CX4. Works well in both applications and a low price. I was thinking of trying it on the 45-70 Guide gun but why push my luck.

Just purchased the CX4 45 ACP and been looking to upgrade to a higher capacity round. I seen on some threads that the PX4 45 ACP 10 rd is compatible with the storm. Has anyone confirmed that and is there any aftermarket or modificactions to magazine plates out there?

My Lekker barrel shroud finally got here! I went with the .40S&W.
TruGlo 2x42 red dot on top rail. I'm gonna try to find a decent green laser for the bottom rail at a gun show this weekend. |

40 S&W! I love the 40 and have it in handguns and a Hi-Point carbine.
