I have an old, 1940's model .22 Rifle that was given to me, and I do know it was originally sold at a small hardware store. It has the holes drilled in the top of the stock for carrying the shells. I have never seen one of these before.
Well billy, That my friend is a eight barreled .44 magnum revolver with a clip. It holds nine in the chamber and 13 in the pipe. The caliber is a 9mm rimfire and its very common. I know cause, well... I have one.

With most gun owners, you will find a LOT of Gallows Humour. Don't take it to heart.
Post up the Manufacturer's Name on the barrel, hopefully the Model Number also. If it doesn't have either of those...or you are having trouble reading the info, post some nice pics of it and we'll try to sort it out.
A cute method of reading rough numbers is to take a pencil & paper and do a rubbing of the name/numbers. It can often bring out clarity.

Yeah, he's right, we just like to kid ya a little bit.
We tend to poke fun if you don't give enough info for a reasonable answer. But the only guns I know of that hold shells in the butt are the all metal survival type like a Bronco or the old 22 over shotgun models but I don't remember who made them ( Stevens or savage maybe?)
