Background: This gun belongs to my dad, I've never shot it but ive cleaned it without taking it apart.
Gun Info:right side it is marked "model p-380 cal - .380 auto" on the left side it is marked " Davis Industries Chino, CA. U.S.A. ". The serial number is on the back of the grip.
Question 1.) how do i go about taking it apart?
Question 2.) if selling what is it worth?

again, from memory, with an empty unloaded gun and safety off,
take a pen and push in on the retainer at the back of the slide while pulling the slide back at the same time.
you will get to a point with the retainer pushed in and the slide pulled back where you can lift the slide up and off from the rear.
dry-firing these pistols usually results in a broken firing pin purty quick.
ain't priced one in years but last time i saw one selling new was around $90.00
used market around 50....................

It retailed for about $95.00.I don't know if they still make them or not. Another cheap .380 is the Lorcin L380. I had one of them it shot ok and never jammed but I never shot anything but ball ammo in it. 95 grain.

It will have more sentimental value than it ever will have financial value.
When it comes to Lorcin, Davis, Jennings, Bryco, Jimenez, High Point, etc...
all I can say is this....

The fact that it is cheap does not necissarily translate into "Value."
I have seen more than one fall apart in 200 rounds.
On the other hand, you can put 10s of thousands of rounds through a used Glock or Beretta. In the long run, you will pay more for the ammo than the gun.
To put tens of thousands of rounds through a Hi Point, you will have to send it back for repairs so many times the shipping costs will be greater than a new Wilson Combat 1911 or custom Sig....
If you want an autoloader look out for a used gun of a better make. I once owned a $200 auto ordnance 1911 that was a great shooter. You can often find KBI pistols in 9mm or .45 that are good shooters, as well as used Tanarmi/Excam/Tanfoglio/Star pistols used in the under $300 range.
Search gunbroker every week and you will be amazed at the bargains on there.
If you absolutely won't listen to reason and have to posess one of these abortions, I would advise you to buy a used one for around $50 to $75.
Remember, you will NEVER get your money back out of one of these things if you wise up and decide to sell it.
Before I would blow $200 on a bad gun,I would spend it on a high end production knife.

These retailed for around 200 when sold new.I bought mine from a local dealer for 160.00 ( got a great discount due to being a reg customer) these sell used for between 90-195 depending on condition..I just sold one that has never been fired for 160 yesterday..but saw 2 others sell for 175 and 185 this week as well
I got mine as an incentive on a larger deal. Never did get it working right, jam machine. I have heard stories that some of them work reasonably well. Let us know if yours is one of them.

Early Zinc alloys were HORRIBLE, you're right about that. But they have improved the breed over the last few years. Much like Early Aluminium, which also sucked, with time & metalurgical advances they eventually get things where they should be.
That's why Hi-Point's have gotten better over the last 10 years...the newer alloys work better.
But even IF there is sentimental value...I'd still do what one guy suggested & keep it as a throwaway Just before you call the cops, File the serial number off, remove yer prints, put plenty of the BG's prints on it, and drop it beside him
