Mosin Nagant Snipers

So, jsut so I am right...the PU scopes that come with those rifles are only 4x power right? I am undecided on if I should get a sniper, or spend the 80, 90 bucks on the top scope mounts so I can add my own scope to my 91/30.
You may laugh, but I got this scope on ebay, it's an xd optics with a Y reticle...this scope is great. I mounted it on my AR and was shooting 1/2" groups at 400 yards. I want to get another one and mount it on my mosin. On one hand, it'd be nice to have a sniper in it original configuration, but on the other a 4x scope is kinda weak. Plus, I alread have 2 91's and it will cost me much less to get another scope and a mount then a nagant sniper. What do you folks think?

I think you can get repro PU 'scopes in 6x. I believe the originals were 3.5x (I'm working from a rusty memory here).

I personally like the look of the PE 'scope mount. It would let you mount pretty much anything you wanted, moreso than the PU. Repros are being made.

Joshua, if we're talking about the same thing the new PU scopes are being made on the same equipment that produced them during the Great Patriotic War, to the original specifications. That would make them 3.5x scopes. Saw one on one of the replica mojnts (ditto ditto) mounted to an M38. I think I'd need a training manual to figure out what all the arcs and marks are for, and the M38 handles very oddly with that scope mount on it.

I know it sounds like a tale, but it's true...now my group was only 2 shots and not 3 and I only did it once...but it sure made me smile. I have 2 shots that were just over 1/2" apart on the target, the rest were here and there some close and some not...but those 2 were dead on. Probably an accident and or luck, oh...I didn't mention...which may be why all the doubt.....I made these shots with my AR, Not my Mosin...I don't have a scope on it yet and at 300 and 400 yards which is where I set my targets I didn't even hit the target. My targets stand 6' high, and are 24" wide, I thought I'd at least hit the 300 with the mosin, but no. Open sights, no wind...just ahd a bad day with it, but the AR did really well with that scope. So, no tall tale, just a couple of lucky shots.

I'm lucky to even come close to 7" groups with my MNs at 100 with the irons.

John (R5CYA) can attest to that... Now with the scope as on John's M91/30 and the PE mount on his M44 I can do better..

I need more practice I suppose. And a non-busted front sight on the 91/30!

So are you Mr. Eagle Eye there with 0.5" groups at 400?

you can buy either the pe or pu mount with 1" rings and use any power scope your heart desires on top.

not true with pu's they dont open at the top, rings and mount are 1 piece. you must use a 1" tubular scope.

Heck, I can't see the bull at 100 yards with the iron sights.

that's where the speculation came into play, an AR raping a 1/2" piece of paper at 400yds is kinda....hmmmm. but nevermind that, not gonna start anything on here....my fingers are too collld to type much
