I guess it depends on your location. The range I go to offers DPMS AR15 and Colt M16 rentals for $30, Glock 17 for $50. I have never rented any (have my own FA to play with) but my understanding is that you shoot as much ammo as you want through them for the hour you have the lane.

Edit to add remember with most FA guns a 25 round magazine will last you all of 3 seconds. My M11 9mm shoots 1100 RPM and takes 30 round Zytel mags - I can do a mag dump in under 2 seconds. Granted thats a fast shooter, but an Uzi shoots around 600 RPM, so two 25 round mags arent going to last long, even doing 3 or 5 round bursts.
