I can't believe some people here continue to argue that there isn't a disarmament plan ready to pass the Reid/Pelosi congress and go into implementation. People had better get on those keyboards and get some pretty forceful letters out to their legislators now. This clown won't be as slow as Bill Clinton. He already has judicial appointees earmarked for the federal courts and district attorneys’ offices in the Justice Department.
Nothing is permanent. It can all be repealed at some point.
The part that gets me is making all guns in this country child proof. WHAT?! I wonder just WTF that means.
EVERYONE that reads this needs to contact the NRA, the SAF and GOA. And their representatives NOW, to start fighting against this crap. Tell them we'll childproof our own kids against guns (through knowledge and education) and that the government needs to stay the hell out of it.
Get busy, people. Write e-mails and letters, and call. I've done a s-load of them already this week. It only means something if enough of us do it to get their attention. I even wrote Obama's transition web site already.
Get going folks. Talk about it at the barber. With relatives. With friends. Get people involved.
I don't know what the heck a childproof gun is, but I don't want one. Fight against the nanny state!

OK, I agree; this paragraph sucks. It remains to be seen whether he can actually manage to do it; he can't sign a bill unless Congress passes one.
Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.
What else in the Urban Policy list do you object to so colorfully? It sounded like a lot of the same-old, same-old to me; they've been trying to resurrect the cities for years now.

I think you're right. This is a lot of the same old playbook.
The part that got me, though, as I said earlier, was the part about "making guns in this country childproof."
WTF does that mean? "guns in this country?" Does that mean I'll have to take all my guns to some approved shop to get them modified in some fashion? What else could it mean?
There's no doubt this will all end up in some fashion of compromise. If we don't fight at all, the line will move closer to us. If we do fight, there's a chance we influence where the line is drawn. One thing I know, I can't sleep with myself if I don't do something. I'm going to crack open another case of Mountain Dew and order a new keyboard with all the e-mails I've been writing. My hands hurt.

That’s the garbage that goes under the heading, "common sense child protection legislation." It's all a bunch of tripe.
I've done a ton of emails to U.S. and state legislators too and plan to write our paper, our state attorney general, and our governor as well.
Good idea Patriot about emailing the Obama people too. It'll probably just alert them that the other 48% is gearing up, but at least they can't say there isn't resisting brewing.

I was pretty respectful, too. I merely pointed out to them that Obama's margin of victory wasn't very high. And that the gun community is abuzz with what Obama might or might not try to do to our gun rights. And that there are MILLIONS of us that will be watching closely to see what happens. A lot of Americans gave him the benefit of the doubt because they did want something new in Washington...but any attempt to push the line too far left will cause him to lose his re-election.
I think all of that is true.

Agreed Patriot, Hopefully too he'll get sound advise from Bill Clinton about what happened to his Democrat congress in '94. That was the year of the "Gun Vote" that swept in the Republican Congress. I remember people, Democrats included, were mad as hornets about the AWB, magazine ban, and other legislation waiting in the wings.
Something I read before I got down to the gun part:
"Do No Harm: Barack Obama and Joe Biden do not support imposing unfunded mandates on states and localities. They strongly support providing necessary funding for programs such as No Child Left Behind."
As a former student in highschool (now in college), and as having first hand experience with the "no child left behind act", I can attest to what kind of a worthless program it is. The only think that that F'd up program did was lower the bar for everyone. As if our education system wasn't bad enough, Bush decided to put this worthless act in. Instead of new initiatives for students to succeed, the bar was lowered for the kids that didn't give a crap so that they could "succeed". America is now just above the third world education system, behind some 20+ countries. even countries that used to be considered, and probably still are to an extent, third world countries like China and India are ahead of the American education system. How am I supposed to compete in the world when I can no longer get an education to compare with a communist country????!!!!
I in now way, shape, or form, ever supported this act and I thought that it would be one thing that Obama might have gotten rid of for his big "change" thing. He just lost some major points from me today and unless he gets rid of this useless program, It will be very hard for him and his party to EVER earn my respect.
"Change"! Yea, I will believe it when I see it. Morons

What you just described was the sad decline of the American educational system that commenced in the early 70's and has plunged since. I was a product of the public school system and managed to graduate just before the schools went into an academic tailspin. Democrats and Republicans alike had a hand in the deterioration of the system. The Democrats are responsible for revising the system to suit their own political ends, and the Republicans are responsible for being complacent to the crime.
Now we can expect everything from more revisionist American history, to the dumbing down of English and math.
Of course, let’s not let American society in general off the hook either. Fewer parents are willing to accept that their children’s bad attitudes and the bad undisciplined, unstructured home life they come from as a contributing factor of bad schools. Many parents want the schools to raise their children for them, and at the same time, not allow them to discipline their children in any manner. It’s gotten so bad in South Carolina, the state is paying for selected students to stay home and go to school through a state sponsored private curriculum where they can learn more and at a faster rate. My 10 year old son is in that program and has almost completed most of the course requirements for the year. I think public school in general is headed in that direction. It’s actually cheaper in the long run, and if implemented properly, a better education. There will still be a need for teachers and administrators, but now they will be accountable for their curriculums and parents will be accountable for their children’s performance. Children who will still attend public school because they come from homes of single working parent, or parents who just can’t participate, will still have the advantage of smaller classrooms and a smaller teacher student ratio than what they experience today.
I don’t know if this system will be any better than the schools during the Post World War II to Post Vietnam War period, but they’ll be infinitely better than they are now. I think we can expect an Obama Regime to oppose this proven system because it takes control and influence away from the government.

OK ,Here is the Agenda...all spelled out for Us at...Change.gov

Check the bottom of the page where it says"contact us". I just did and gave them an earful! I suggest everyone else do it.
They've got to be made aware of the hornets nest they're about to kick!

They just got my ear full. I hope I don't hear that ...knock... on the door from the Obama Secret Police one night in a couple of months. I was very respectful ...but very uncompromising too.

I think that's vital--to be respectful. There's probably only a little chance that they'd read it all the way through in the first place. But if you're abusive, it's surely going to the shredder or recycle bin without reading it all.
Thanks for writing them. I've written a lot in the last several days. And I plan on doing some more next weekend. I'm not going to let up. If we all do it, they'll recognize our numbers. Unfortunately, it's just like voting, only a minority percentage are moved to actually take action for something they believe in.

Wow. It looks like they pulled their entire agenda section. I wonder if they were getting too many e-mails on it and want a chance to take another look at it.
Regardless, it's gone now.

As a teacher since '67, I can verify that NCLB and a variety of other grand ideas -- mostly unfunded, mind you -- have done nothing except force us to invest more and more of our resources, both personnel and money, in those individuals who would rather be anywhere except high school. As a result, the serious students are deprived of the time and talent they deserve. The bottom line is that we are being forced to educate all to the same level of mediocrity.
The students in other countries that Cremley references come here to go to college and seem to blow our kids into the weeds. Please remember, though, that other countries do not have laws requiring all children to attend school. The schools are inhabited by students who want to be there, hence are far more oriented toward education than behavioral modification of recalcitrant individuals. The kids who come out of those schools are the best of the crop, and the best of them come here for college.
We, on the other hand make everyone go to school and spend a lot of class time correcting behavior, trying to get people to pay attention, wondering why homework doesn't get done, etc. We graduate a much higher percentage of our population, but the diploma doesn't stand for as much. I wish mandatory education stopped at the 8th grade. Then the knuckleheads would either bail out or decide to act like they value the opportunity before them and us teachers could do what we're trained to do.
