Beretta v. Springfield

So I am hoping on purchasing my next handgun in the near future. I already own a Springfield 1911-A1, and am thrilled with it. But I'd like to get a 9mm, so that my trips to the range will be easier on the wallet.

I have always wanted to get a Beretta 92FS or M9, but the new XD's have really intrigued me. In fact, I would go ahead and just get an XD if it wasn't for them being pricier (College budget).

And my other main requirement, is that it would be comfortable enough for me to carry (I hope to take my CCW course here on Winter break from classes).

What is your advice, on what I should do? Thanks for any input given!

I would go Springfield for sure. I have the Springfield 1911 A1 too. My main carry gun is the XD .40 Subcompact and I bought a 9MM XD Subcompact for cheaper practice and stay as close to my carry gun as I can. I just ordered the XD M 9mm this past week too. With 19 + 1 the XD M is sure to be a lot of fun.

I just got a 92fs, and really like it, all alloy/steel, no plastic, not that would make a diff to most, but did to me. when i go to get a .40, it will probly be a XD, plastic or not, they are still a quality peice.

I would say go with the Springfield for the fact you said you want to carry in the near future. The Beretta is going to be heavier compared to the polymer Springfield.

And holy crap Gary!! 19 + 1?? Man I hate living in Cali.

Yep. 19 + 1 and Springfield is giving 2 free magazines with it in addition to the 2 that come with it. I will have a total of four (4) 19 round magazines. Adolf Obama must love that offer.

You gotta tell me how 15-19 go into the mag. I bet it's a real thumb breaker.

The speed loader is more of a "Loading Helper" than speed. The extended Mag on my XD .40 is the same. Last 2 rounds are tough.

I have a XD9 subcompact and a Beretta 96 .40 and love them both. As posted earlier the XD would be better for CCW. I haven't looked in awhile but I didn't think XD's cost more than the Beretta. Maybe the new XD M does.

The XD subcompact and 4" barrel are about $450 at Bud's. I just ordered the 9MM XD M (Due in Thursday) and it was $595 including background check and sales tax.

Beretta is a great gun but I'm still a Die Hard Springfield fan. The XD M will be my 4th Springfield. There are many great gun brands out there but Springfield has always done me right. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I have the 92FS - great pistol. But, it is heavier than the XD which is also a good pistol. Still though, I own a 92FS and Glocks, but no XD's. But, it's all personal taste. Nothing mentioned here would be a bad choice. Get the one that feels best in your hand - it will shoot the best for you. I have big 9mm's mainly because I only use them for practice and competition. I usually carry a .40 or either my little Kel-tec .380.

Both are great guns. Beretta has been reliable for decades and the XD seems to be the new gun of choice. I'd take either but since I was asked to choose I'll take the XD.

hammer no hammer

One difference I see between the two:
Beretta has a visible hammer and the Springfield doesn’t.
Does this characteristic make a difference?

Also see that the Springfield has a funny trigger, does that bother anyone?
