Well, Ed. That's tricky. I'd say 1937. I think the semi-automatic Garand rifle's end came with #80 at the end of the model shop run, thence becoming the US Rifle Cal. .30 M1 with #81.

NATIONAL MATCH

1957 LISTED AS OFFICAL END OF M1'S BUT NATIONAL MATCH WERE CONTINUED. JANUARY 1955 WAS CHANGE IN COMMAND.

I'll call you, Ed. I'm ready for V2 (I've waited my "dimes" worth) and still have your card from V1's purchase. Now back to my studies...

Rick, DANA, Steve,
You guys have it right in front of you. I'll give you a hint. It was because Ordnance wanted a change in Caliber.
Come on crack them BOOKS.
Thanks again

Ok. Ed, there were two caliber changes. One to .276 that MacArthur quashed and the other to 7.62 when the M14 was being developed. I think the latter is a little too obvious. I'm going to say, 1927.

Steve,
Look in Vol 1 of the Garand Papers, it will give you all the data.
It's not 1927.
Thanks again
