New Haven by Mossberg 600AT 12 ga.

Serial number G8398xy purchased by me in the late 1970's at a Holiday store in central Minnesota.
From what I've read, this is interchangaeable with the 500A. True??

1. I'm looking for a rifled slug barrel to convert it to a deer gun from it's current 30" full choke (which by the way, was successful in dropping a whitetail at 65 yards this past weekend using a rifled 1 oz slug). What's the best place to buy such a barrel?

2. After firing this gun, the pump does not automatically release, which is true of every other pump I own. I must press the pump/action release next to the trigger guard in order to eject and reload the next shot. It has always been this way. Is this a malfunction or the way it should be?

Thank you.

the only information i could find out about your gun was in the ninth edition of modern gun values.it says the 600at has the same specs as the mossberg 500.that being the case you should not have to press the slide release after each shot.fwiw there was a new haven 600 ats slugster, ramp front sight, and a running deer scene etched on the receiver.it doesn't say if it had a rifled barrel.i am guessing here but i'll bet the 500 barrels will interchange with your shotgun.see if your local gun store has a 500 slug barrel to check to see.cabelas or midway stock 500 slug barrels, but if your local gun shop can help, give them the business.they might can help with your pump release problem as well.also welcome to guns and game forums.

Thanks for your reply and the welcome. I'll visit my local gunsmith for the slide release issue, but then again I'm so used to it now, maybe I'll just leave it alone. In researching rifled slug barrels it looks like there is a scope-ready version without iron sights and an iron sight version that would require drilling of the receiver to add a scope. Any comments on which is better? Thanks.

my 500's slug barrel is not tapped for scope mounting, but my receiver is.fwiw there is a video on youtube showing the field stripping of the 500.perhalps if you tear it down as described on the video you can figure out what is wrong with it.i imagine quick shots at birds is very frustrating with your action problem.good luck

I found and watched the YouTube video you mentioned. I've unassembled and reassembled several times over the years, and the video confirms I've been doing it right. It's cleaned and oiled, but just doesn't work. I've found the barrel I need at Mossberg, Maverick, Gander Mountain, and Cabelas...all are on back order, but at least I know it exists. Thanks for your input.
