I was actually born in Crawfordsville, Indiana (Montgomery County) about 40-50 miles from Indy. My mother is from Indiana too, as her family is still mostly up there.
I once considered retiring back up there - but the winters are too cold - I've become "Floriderised".....
Been down here since I was three years old.
I was born in Indianapolis. Lived in Plainfield and Brownsburg. I started school at IU but ended up a boiler maker after I decided not to follow my family into buisness. I still have family there in the southern and western sub burbs of Indy.

Shelby County...Home of Balser Brent and the Bears of Blue River. Nary a boy grew up in this county that hadn't sat upon their Momma's or Pappa's knee and had this story read to them:
"AWAY back in the "twenties," when Indiana was a baby state, and great forests of tall trees and tangled underbrush darkened what are now her bright plains and sunny hills, there stood upon the east bank of Big Blue River, a mile or two north of the point where that stream crosses the Michigan road, a cozy log cabin of two rooms—one front and one back.
"The house faced the west and stretching off toward the river for a distance equal to twice the width of an ordinary street, was a blue-grass lawn, upon which stood a dozen or more elm and sycamore trees, with a few honey-locusts scattered here and there. Immediately at the water's edge was a steep slope of ten or twelve feet. Back of the house, mile upon mile, stretched the deep dark forest, inhabited by deer and bears, wolves and wildcats, squirrels and birds, without number.
"In the river the fish were so numerous that they seemed to entreat the boys to catch them, and to take them out of their crowded quarters. There were bass and black suckers, sunfish and catfish, to say nothing of the sweetest of all, the big mouthed redeye.
"South of the house stood a log barn, with room in it for three horses and two cows; and enclosing this barn together with a piece of ground, five or six acres in extent, was a palisade fence, eight or ten feet high, made by driving plies into the ground close together. In this enclosure the farmer kept his stock, consisting of a few sheep and cattle, and here also the chickens, geese, and ducks were driven at nightfall to save them from "varmints," as all prowling animals were called by the settlers.
"The man who had built this log hut, and who lived in it and owned the adjoining land at the time of which I write, bore the nanie of Balser Brent. "Balser" is probably a corruption of Baltzer, but, however that may be, Balser was his name, and Balser was also the name of his boy, who was the hero of the bear stories which I am about to tell you."

Hello from Southern Indiana about 30 miles north of bigbuddy 21 and Louieville(Louisville) Ky. Did not feel very SOUTHERN this morning in a deer stand with 16 degree temps. This 1950 model body did complain a bit, but hung in there anyway. Got a doe in bow and a nice buck a few days ago in gun, so am not sure why I climbed in a stand again today with few remaining days left of vacation, but so be it. Now some history.... Born and raised in Indiana got to see the world by being a 'Nam Vet, had a short stint calling home in Mesa AZ and Idaho Falls Idaho (16mo. total) the rest back home in INDIANA. Love to shoot my C&R's and modern firearms, but not enough time to fit it in as I would like. Will probably retire the end of '09 after nearly 34 yrs. at the same company, then I will see if I have enough ammo stockpiled to burn them targets up. Glad to see all the Hoosiers on site. Remember!!! Indiana the land of lifetime hunting and fishing licence and lifetime CCW personal protection permits. Not sure if the hunt and fish are still available, but the CCW's are. Better get them while you can.
OKAY!!!! Here I am showing my..er..ah.. BASS
