I'm an Iowa boy too from the west-central part of the state Originally from Carroll. I live in a small town near there now. When ever I go to Des Moines I try to stop by Sportsman's in Ankeny and Scheelds at Jordan Creek. When is that new Bass Pro opening up?

They are grading the site now and working on the sewers. Should be up this year.

We have a few running around. I flew the Police chopper for 25 years and did the annual deer count with the DNR inside the city limits. We saw a lot of huge bucks in areas and places that you would not believe.

Really miss Iowa

I used to live in Marshalltown. Moved to Missouri 11yrs ago. Went deer hunting down here 3 times and the deer are just alittle bigger than a german shepard. That sucks. I miss all the hunting and fishing spots I had back there. I work for a conceal carry holster company now. If you might need one look me up at Crossbreed holsters.com. Names Larry and I make holsters. Miss ya Iowa..

I am new to the Des Moines area, just moving from SE Florida. So far I love the state, but have never lived in an area which gets snow. Does anyone have any recommended gun ranges in the area?

You have a few options...

Pay as you go DNR range north of Polk City. Operated By Warman Management

Another south of town Banner Shooting Range

Ankeny Izaak Walton where I go Ankeny Ikes

And the grand daddy Des Moines Rifle and Revolver club range near Van Meter DesMoines Rifle and Revolver Club

Enjoy that first snow.

Where are you at pico?

Off of Lower Beaver in a new development in Des Moines. It is in the Johnston School District, which is great for my three children. I appreciate the info on the ranges and will go to one probably this weekend.

Wow, I grew up a mile from there. Still have friends in that nieghborhood along with some co-workers.

If you want to run out to the Ankeny Ikes, shoot me a PM and we'll get together. I've been on a run recruiting new members this year. Up to 3 now. LOL!
