Yikes!

I was doing some draw-and-fire drill at the range the other day with my P89. My normal carry mode is hammer down, safety off. I was practicing drawing and getting off a clean double action first shot, after which I would decock with the safety, return the safety to the fire position, reholster and do it again.

At some point as I was reholstering, I locked down and saw the hammer start to come back! It had only come back a quarter inch or so, then went back down but

I could clearly see the hammer, so it wasn't caught on anything. The only explanation is that the trigger got caught, possibly on the shirt guard of my Don Hume open top. Anyways, from now on I'll be holstering with the safety on, then switch it off after its tucked in.

If it had been a Glock, I believe I'd have a hole in my leg at this point.

Holy cow! Glad you saw that hammer moving! I don't have a Don Hume open top for my P85...kinda glad I don't after reading your story!

Be glad you weren't trying for speed when holstering the gun!

Glad you caught that before you had a incident. That just proves it pays to always be aware when handling a fire arm. If you carry daily it's easy to become complacent.
