Thumbs down Bolt Assembly troubles

I recently purchased a Hawkeye rifle in .308 Rem. round. I went out today to site in the rifle. I could not close the assembly completely. I have another Ruger in 30-06. The bolt fits into the gun and cycled the ammo through it fine. What you guys think may be the issue? Is the assembly for the 30-06 the same as for the .308? Is it safe to shoot? I will be taking it back tommorrow for a replacement. Just thought I could get some ideas.

I doubt they are interchangeable. Are they serial numbered ?? Did you accidentally switch bolts ??

SwedeSteve, I did not mix them up. One is polished stainless ans the other satin. I ended up with a bad box of ammo. I tried another box and it cylces fine. I did writa a letter to Remington about their ammo. tks for the reply.
