I'm a New Yorker from Westtown, Orange County living in exhile in N.E. Georgia; I married a southern girl and she couldn't adjust to the north. I was just home over Thanksgiving weekend for the first time in 5-6 years. Noticed some growth from Middletown south but Sullivan looked about the same. Miss living up there but not the taxes or the lack of jobs. Hope everyone enjoys the snow this week and have a Marry Christmas or a Happy Chanaka which ever applies.

well I'll give you a weather report I was just up there yesterday/friday. Snow, lots of snow, and windy mostly because of this storm that just rolled through.

Nice area, I tried to move up there and buy a farm, but I couldn't sell my house down here.

I was born in Monroe, NY in Orange county and lived there for the most of my first 39 years.
Moved to Florida in 1978 because the winters were getting very cold and the cost of fuel oil was overwhelming. Hate to be paying for it now because it was only .52 cents a gallon when I left.
I can't tell you how much I miss the fall and hunting season. I used to enjoy just walking through the woods with my camera.
New York is a beautiful state and I'd love to live there again if I could afford the taxes and heating costs.
The ERIE railroad used to run through Monroe and we watched the end of the steam locomotives and the switchover to the modern diesels that belched big black and stinky exhaust. I went up there in 2005 and the railroad tracks are all gone now.
