Even George Washington referred to the Pine Bush area as Upstate NY.
I realize that this is 'silly semantics'.
However, there is a dividing line between 'really'upstate and downstate.
Syracuse,on the Mohawk river is downstate, and the hospital, and some municipal buildings are so named.
I also have been exposed to a few really upstate New Yorkers, who consider themselves 'better' then ordinary downstate New Yorkers.
When I post on a forum that is New York oriented, like this one,I identify myself as 'downstate',to seperate myself from those folks. On any other forum,I am 'upstate'

I'm just down the road from you in Wappingers, if you ever want a shooting partner I'd be happy to bring my AR over to help you break in that 100 yard range.

On Drum? I'm orginally from there and my family is still there. (A-bay Hammond, Black Lake)

Oh and yeah guys I'm back, still alive and kicking, just overwhelmed by life and work.

MilkMan and OldMike - I'm your neighbor to the west. I live in Owego. Does anyone use the Tioga County Shooter's Association range? It's on Charmichael Road about 2 miles off the main drag.

Oh yeah, Merry Christmas.

Flashhole, I'm a member of TSC and get there every 3 or 4 weeks. I actually live in the town of Owego but I have an Endicott address.

Happy New year.
