Chicago Defies the Second Amendment

Since the Supreme Court upheld the individual right to own guns last summer, one municipality after another with handgun bans has faced reality. Washington, D.C., which lost the case, changed its law. Morton Grove, Ill., repealed its ban. So did neighboring Wilmette. Likewise for Evanston. Last week, Winnetka followed suit. Then there is Chicago, which is being sued for violating the Second Amendment but refuses to confront the possibility that what the Supreme Court said may apply on this side of the Appalachians.

Please bear in mind that Daley is one of Obama's biggest allies. He thinks/is gambling that the Obamists will get a gun ban in place before the lawsuit filed by the NRA can work its way through th system and get the Chicago ban thrown out. He does not/is unwilling to see that with the Heller Decision on the books, even if the Obamists institute a ban there is a good chance it will not stand up to a court challenge, because their banning of firearms that would commonly be used by a militia clearly violates the Second Amendment - and Scalia wrote that such is not allowed in the decision.

Of course, it will take years for such a suit to make it up in front of the Supreme Court, and I think Daley is gambling that "the horse will learn to sing."

Daley is God incarnate. If you don't think so, just ask him.
