Have a Llama 45,I like the vent rib and flare to the butt, shoots good and reliable. Does not have model on it any where, only make and serial no. looking for extra mags, model IX-A mags do not fit. does anyone know where I can find info on model from the serial number? Think maybe VIII, but do not know for sure!
This makes the search for parts, magazines, etc. somewhat difficult.
Interestingly, Llama got a bad reputation yet I never knew anyone who had one that ever had a single complaint.
Personally, I wish they would come back.
My old roommate had one. Can I complain about it? It was the loosest, sloppiest action of any .45 I have ever fired. You could actually feel the action clunk and grind while cycling, which threw any fast reacquisition of target completely out of the question. That and most standard .45 parts do not fit it.

I know about the bad ones, I had a brand new Llama 45 in the mid 80's, one of the later ones with the straight sides on the slide and smooth grips, it was a real piece of crap! None of the parts were symetrical, the grips did not fit right and when I took it out of the box it had metal shavings in the workings, it looked like it had been machined with a coarse rasp. The one that I am looking for info on is much older and much, much better and tighter manufacture. It will shoot where I aim it and feeds every time, at least with ball ammo. It shoots like the Colt series 70 I had years ago.
Ive had great luck with the 1950's model Llama 45 ACP that was a Vitoria Espana Model that was Imported By Stoeger Arms in Hackensac New Jersey, Mine looks just like the one shown above and works very well and shots great, Ive also used other 1911 magazines that worked great, I did have to file the magazine catch notch a bit to make it work in my gun. I think this gun gets a bad rap from some gun snobs that havent used or fired one.
I have a large frame Llama in .45ACP, for extra Mags I use standard single stack colt 7shot mags, they work perfectly and they run around $10 and up. The only issue I had with mine was it was finnicky with JHP ammo, I solved that with "Pow'r Ball" ammo, and regular 230 gr FMJ, the Pow'r Ball is 165gr +P ammo. I also put different grips on mine since the one of the original black plastic ones was busted. It came with one standard mag and one Pachmayr mag with rubber pad, I have since purchased three more standard 7 shot colt mags.
