Opinons on CZ-50

I was at the gun shop for something else and got to looking in the law enforcement pistol case (I've got to stop doing that!) There was a CZ in there, which on examination turned out to be a CZ0-50 in 7.65/.32 ACP. It looks to be in pretty good shape.

He wants $150 for it with 1 magazine. I found the on-the-frame safety that works European-style to be a bit disconcerting (safety up for fire, and it's not a decocker like a Walther PP or similar pistol), but it points well and there's nothing wrong with the sights a fine sable brush and some sight paint won't cure. It's in green phosphate finish, which I think makes it ex-military.

Is this a good pistol? CZs have an excellent reputation but I've never owned one. And I can't seem to find much online about that model. Anyone have any experience with them?

im not sure that a cz50 is the best representation of the cz quality, that being said i am going to get one at some point. and $150 is a good price for one, i have seen them online for $170 mostly and above at some places. im not sure but the cz 50 might acualy be the same gun as the cz70. anyways like i said i dont think that a cz50 is the best choise as a first cz, id go with a cz70 first then a cz52 then a cz50, but thats just me.

Cyrano,
The Vz-50 and Vz-70 are of very good quality, the differences are the grips and the hammer and on some pistols that have been back to the arsenal it is hard to tell as they've swapped out parts. The Vz-50 is C&R eligible where the Vz-70 is not. These pistols do NOT like to feed hollowpoint ammo but readily digest FMJ. The safety is unusual, up is fire as the red dot is exposed; if the hammer is down and the safety is applied covering the red dot the trigger and hammer are locked. If the hammer is back and you want to lower the hammer on a loaded chamber you move the safety to cover the red dot and then press it down toward the grip and the safety will decock the hammer to the lowered position. I think 150 is a very fair price....

My CZ 50/70 goes full auto after firing the first round. My first guess is a bad sear and/or sear spring. Your thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

well dan the first thing i would do is take the whole thing apart and clean the living hell out of it, try taking apart the fring pin asembly and cleaning that realy well, it maybe exerienceing some slamfireing similare to what can happen to an sks. if that does not work then i suggest taking it to a gunsmith.

I've got both the 50 and 70. They are the same gun.
They're a bit "snappy" for such a small round. My 1911 is actually more comfortable to shoot. Mine like hollow points. Its been so long since I've had them out I foget what brand hollow points I used. 150 is top dollar in my oppinion. They are a nice little pistol for that price range. If you're going to spend more you might as well get more from another pistol like a FEG PA63 for bout same price with shipping included from JGsales. Another one I have and also love and prefer shooting over the cz50. But everone is different.
I just did a search on gunbroker. Seems these lil pistols have dried up. THey used to be all over the place, cheap. I got both of mine for just over 100 each.
As far as quality. I don't think the Czechs ever put out a poor quality firearm. They were big time into engineering and quality, as much as the Germans were noted to be. There may have been a slight drop in QA when the commis came to town.
If its parkerized, it maybe refinnished. Mine are both blued and show a little holster wear, so I assume blueing was the original finish. But who knows.

I"ve never had a stove pipe, feed jam or other issue with functioning. The one and only issue is on the 70. It has "trigger kick" I forget what you call it exactly. But when you shoot it, the trigger gets forced forward a tiny bit, but just enough to sting your finger a little. It not too bad but gets a little sore after bout 50 rounds or so. I've never bothered to dive into it to try and remedy the problem.
