ive got two, one for buging-out to a wilderness seting and one for an urban setting. B-O-B's are good to keep in vehicle's as well. and i always keep a firearm handy.

Too right, larmus. I keep one, which actually ought to be called a "get-home bag" in the car at all times. I can bug out with it, sure; and that's the mindset I had when I put it together; but realistically it's meant to get me home first. If nothing else, I'd want a better firearm than the AR-7 that lives in it with 250 rounds of ammo.

yeah, thats what mine is intended for is to get me home. i always carry a handgun and extra clips, but a nice little break down .22 or something would be a nice addition to the urban-bob. that ar-7 is the semi-.22 that stores in the stock, right?

I keep a lot of things stored in preparation for survival in general. I have no bug out put together nor do I plan to. But I do have a number of large rubbermaid tubs with locking caps that I can store a lot of things protected from the weather. My plan is to stay home, but if I have to leave, I'll take a large van with trailer filled with all kinds of things including fuel.

So, what is the price tag of that package? Looks like a good idea, however, I have a family of five and that can get expensive. My idea for now is to hold up where I am until it gets so bad I have no choice.

I noticed you did not have a gas mask in your gear. Does anyone else have a mask?

A bug out bag is a great concept for a single guy/gal. I have a wife, and two small girls. I came up with the idea of a bug out box. I have all we need in two rubermaid storage boxes/bins. I grab a rifle, and the two boxes, my wife manages the kids. If seperated my wife knows what to do. I have put a box of each type of ammo in each box so it does not matter which gun my wife grabs, she will have at least one box of ammo. The "concept" of bugg-in out does not work well with a family, until the kids are older.

As far as price goes, I think I could build my current BOB for about $100 (does not include ammo or gun gear).

Outdoor pack from Walmart: $20 (modded myself to hold my folded rifle).
Fannie pack: $5 (holds quick-reach stuff, again modded to hold mags).
Water bladder: $10 (2L).
Lighters and Flint: $5ish
Bag of dryer lint: Free (catches and burns nicely).
Duct Tape: $3
Flashlight: $4 (Harbor Freight, .1" aluminum case, 9LED, 3AAA, proven quite reliable and tough).
Blanket: $5
Towel: $2
Deodorant / Tooth brush / Paste: $3ish
Few small cans / bags of food: $5
Poncho: $1 (though I am going to get a non-disposable one so maybe $10ish).
Head lamp: $15 (has red light for night vision, and normal white lights, takes AAA batts).
Mini Radio w/ wire headphones: $12
Bandana: $1
Shooting ear buds: $2ish (held together by a string and fit in a small plastic case).
Rope: $3 (3/8", 300lb capacity, only keep half of it so 50').

I might have forgotten a few small things, but some things listed are liberal estimations.

This is also both my shooting and camping pack, so I also keep my boresnake and magazines and ear buds in there. All my ammo is in safe portable containers (peanut-butter jars, etc), the smallest of which is about 1.5"x6" long and holds 275 rounds of .22lr ammo for my rifle, and can easily be tossed in the bag (which I do when I go shooting).

There are two main pockets and the smaller front pocket. The main pocket is about half full right now with the blanket, towel, water bladder, food, rope, etc. This leaves a bit of space to toss some appropriate clothes or whatever in there, depending on the situation. The second front pocket is the one with the added length at the bottom to hold my folded rifle, as well as the fanny pack. The smaller front pocket and little side pockets hold most of the smaller stuff that isn't in the fanny-pack.

All loaded up the whole setup weighs about 30lbs (including water and rifle).

I do have other stuff I've accumulated, but this is my primary BOB that I'd have if I had to hoof it somewhere. I am currently working on putting a similar setup together for the GF (specifically in regards to the rifle in the backpack thing). Though she does already have a further simplified version of what I have (a little less food, disposable poncho, only a water bottle, no rope, etc... just basic stuff).

As far as the gas mask thing goes, I don't think they are worth the space in a BOB compared to the other more-likely-to-use stuff one could fit in the same volume and weight (like an extra jacket or change of clothes or blanket or pistol or...). Hell, even to keep around the house all one should really expect out of a basic gas mask is resistance to tear gas (doesn't nerve gas go through the skin?).

Good luck and have fun!

No for real, the thing that makes it supremely viable is the ability to carry millions of rounds... half a box is only good for two... maybe three targets .
