"A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government."George Washington
I enjoying reading quotes from our founding fathers...
...to help me more firmly grasp the context in which they did what they did to help clarify and establish protection for and perpetuation of our rights and freedoms.
Thanks again...

The thing that impresses me with regards to the F.F. is that when you encounter truth, it needs no further explaination. It rings as genuine from the first instant.
Contrast that with some quotes from our current elected servants and.... hmmm. Not so much.
Someone needs to remind the incoming administration of what the Father of His Country said. And as to why he said it, to reread the Declaration of Independence.
1 What is the law?
The Constitution and the laws of the United States, which shall be in pursuance thereof, shall be the Supreme law of the land... with no infringement. G Washington
2 Bad Government?
A government that abrogates any of the Bill of Rights with or without majoritarian approval, forever acts illegitimately, becomes tyrannical, and loses the moral right to govern. Jeff Snyder
3 Citizens rights?
The Constitution SHALL never be construed to authorize Congress to prevent the people of the U.S. who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms. Sam Adams
No Freeman shall be debarred the use of arms. Tom Jefferson
4 No Gun zones
The very atmosphere of firearms any where and everywhere restrains evil interference- they deserve a place of honor with all that is good. George Washington.
5 Militias
The 2 nd Amendment, also
Today, we need a nation of minutemen, citizens who are not only prepared to take arm, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily livf and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom. JFK
6 Guns Kill
The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the the path of righteous by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles. Col Jeff Cooper, Art of the Rifle.
My trusty, but not rusty, Rifle. It takes my food, and then stands there as a guard, waiting eternally to rise and be the Guardian of my freedoms. It's mags are full of the past spirits of truth and freedom and honor. I respect my rifle because it respects my freedoms. People that do not respect the rifle, do not respect freedom. To love a rifle is to love freedom. D/S
I spent a half of day reading quotes by George Washington several months ago and read the one posted above.
It's Interesting to note our forefathers made similar quotes as well.
I guess they knew someday we would be governed by tyrants and squm bags.
...with sharp memories of the nasty government they left behind in Europe and clear visions of the ongoing need to protect themselves and future generations of such abominations to human rights and citizenry liberties.
