Any other Johnny Cash fans here?

His songs were part of my childhood but I've always been a fan. Here's some of my favorites.

Ragged old flag.
Man in black.
Chattanooga city limit sign.
Ring of fire.
Cocaine blues.

What are yours?

Heck yeah!!

I have always enjoyed his music. I wish I could have been around back when he was getting started. Cash, Presley, Jennings, Orbison, Carter, etc....all at the same show. Wow. That would have been cool.

Shel Silverstein wrote a lot of novelty songs back in the day. Bobby Bare recorded some and I've heard ol' Shel himself on Doctor Demento's radio show. I was not aware that he was a children's author though.

We saw two live concerts

one in Houston and one in Amarillo. the first one was near the end of Mother Mabell's appearance career. June and all her sisters appeared with their mother. of course, this was a long time ago.

cool story

In June 1965, his truck caught fire due to an overheated wheel bearing, triggering a forest fire that burnt several hundred acres in Los Padres National Forest in California. When the judge asked Cash why he did it, Cash said, "I didn't do it, my truck did, and it's dead, so you can't question it."The fire destroyed 508 acres burning the foliage off three mountains and killing 49 of the refuge's 53 endangered CONDORS Cash was unrepentant: "I don't care about your damn yellow buzzards."

Do you think that was the inspiration for his "Ring of Fire" or was it the Indian Curry he'd had one night?

The man in Black (the song) always brings a lump to my throat.
I love ragged old flag, What is truth, San Quentin Blues, Jackson... the list goes on. and of course his last 5 albums (the American series).

They don't make 'em like that any more.

He also wrote "25 minutes to go" which Johnny Cash performed. I believe He also wrote "The Cover of the Rolling Stone" performed by Dr. Hook. And the song "The Father of a Boy Named Sue"

I love Johnny Cash's music.

Some of my favorites weren't written by Johnny Cash but his renditions are great.

I'm on Fire-- A Bruce Springsteen song I believe
Never Picked Cotton
Any Ol' Wind that Blows
Get Rhythm
The Night They Drove Ol' Dixie Down-- The Band
Solitary Man-- Neil Diamond
The Man Who Couldn't Cry
Cocaine Blues
Cocaine Carolina
Sugar Babe
I Wanted So
The Wichita Lineman-- Glenn Campbell maybe?
Jim, I Wore a Tie Today
Tennessee Stud
Long Black Veil
I Hung My Head
The Mercy Seat
Hurt
I Still Miss Someone
Folsom Prison Blues
Cat's in the Cradle
Blue Train
Wanted Man
I've Been Every Where--- Hank Snow?
The Last Gunfighter
Dark as a Dungeon
I Got Stripes
The Starkville City Jail
Blood on Blood
The Wanderer
Pocahontas
Oney
Paradise ---my great grandparents are buried in Paradise-- John Prine

There's more that I really like. But I think those are my favorites.

It has been a long time

but when we were much younger my wife and I saw the Johnny Cash show in Amarillo at the old fairground colliseum.

This was during the last years Mother Mabel Carter toured with Johnny Cash, June, and her sisters.

He really had a stage presence. Mother Mabel, June, and the sisters really had a unique blend of female voices.

Thumbs up

Johnny Cash...my favorite Country singer. Missed seeing his performance in Branson, MO...went there to see him and he left that weekend before I could watch his show. I was really disappointed.

LOL I saw the title and couldn't resist.
I am a huge Johnny Cash fan, he's probably the greatest artist we've ever produced.
Ya gotta love someone who can do a cover of NIN's "Hurt" and make it his own! He done purdy good for a Arkansas boy.
