Am thinking about a 9mm for after Xmas so I took a ride to my local gun store today. Told him what I wanted and he immediately pulled out the Steyr. I have heard of them but didnt think anything about them. I was looking for him to show me Rugers, Glocks, Taurus, S&W's etc. He pulled this baby out and I loved it. WHat caught me first was the sights. The were different and I found that their setup was excellent for target opposition. This what is what the gun will be used for. Plus it felt great in my hand.
Now I am wondering how may out there have this gun. How does it shoot? Easy to clean? Any malfunctioning issues?
Best handgun I've ever shot. It is comfortable and operates clean. It disassembles easily and breaks down to field strip with one quick movement. Is the model you looked at the M9A1? My experience has ruined me since I bought it. All other handguns feel awkward to hold. The sights are awesome for personal defense applications but for precise aiming it's not so useful. I have trieed and tried to target shoot at 25yds. I can hit target mass easily but as for grouping... That's the only con I have. The customer service is above par as well. I had a problem with my trigger safety resetting and I sent it out and had it back within two weeks. You also may have problems finding mags.

I have a Steyr M9 that I use as my carry gun, I love it. From what I've heard from the man at the pawn shop the desinger of the Steyr M and S series pistols used to work at Glock, but he had some problems with them and left them to work at Steyr-Mannlicher. When people ask me "What's that gun, I've never heard of Steyr?" I just tell them "It's like a Glock, but better."

I have read the same background for the Steyr M series pistols. Designed by a Glock engineer who actually had new ideas to take the polymer framed pistol forward. Glock had a good thing going, decided they didn't want anything new (except a lambe cartridge with their name on it), and the engineer went to Steyr to actually engineer new guns.

I love my M9-A1. I also love the sights, and for me, they work fine for accuracy. I took it out a few weeks ago with a buddy of mine. We lined up 10 beer bottles (this is Wyoming, lol) at 50 yards, and he shot 30 rounds from his Romanian AK and didn't hit one. He's not the greatest shot, lol.
So still back at 50 yards, I pulled out the Steyr and hit all 10 bottles... still had 5 rounds so I shot at other random things. He went off grumbling in search of more bottles.
Now, I've been shooting (and a lot) for almost 30 years... but that impressed me for a $400 pistol... I've had it for a while now, but I never tried shooting it from 50 yards before, lol.
Oh, as a side note, my buddy set up more bottles and I took his AK to see what was up... if it was him, the sights, whatever... first shot took out another beer bottle. I handed his AK back and tried not to laugh too much, lol.
^ Nice shots. I've hit a Vitamin Water bottle at 80yds. with ten shots to get the bullet drop right. I still have trouble with accuracy, but I haven't been shooting anywhere near 30 years so....Practice, practice, practice.
