Angry Guys followed wife onto property!

Okay I am majorally ILL to put it nicely and I ain't feelin real "NICE" about right now!

My wife tells me these 2 guys in this white 4 door followed her up into our long dark driveway and were parked behind her when she got out of the van (she had been dropping our 2 sons of at the church Christmas party and was coming back).

The neighbors who rent from us in the middle of our 5 acres have a white 4 door also so she thought it was them as we have a common driveway.

Well it wasn't. It was two "foreign guys" and they followed her all the way to the house (in their car) and when she got out they said "Excuse me is there a back exit to this neighborhood?"

A dumb as hell question especially if you knew our neighborhood but I think it was intentionally dumb so she would stop long enough to think about it so they could get her to hesitate or get closer.

She said "No" and immediately got to the house. I was out there in 10 or 20 seconds max with my loaded .44 and they were no where on the property or EVEN INSIGHT all the way down the street which is a football field long. So they must have hauled butt REAL quick.

You can't see my dually from the street and I had my hot rods parked around also so they probably figured correctly there was a guy around (this was about 6:30PM our time).

We called the police to let them know about a suspicious vehicle and they seemed pretty interested in the story and had my wife on there for a decent time.

Anyhow sorry to ramble on but I am usually on edge 99.999% of the time anyway (expecting the unexpected) after growing up right next door to a pyromaniac that set neighbors houses on fire and I am really pissed my wife was possibly in danger and who the hell that was that came all the way up here thinking they were going to get away with something.

The way it went down and how quick they hauled butt it had to be something.

I'll be up looking out the windows and laying away listening for sounds all darn night now. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!:angryfir e:

Sorry just had to talk to some other guys about it

Yes, she knows how to shoot and is a great shot but will not carry as busy as she is and it would end up locked up in the van most of the time with where she works and all.

She endures me having weapons of some form always within reach though no matter where I am and I am fine with that though.

2Much, I hate to point this out, but I think you really need to have a heart to heart with your wife, the text of which should involve, "You never need a pistol until you need one badly." The fact these yahoos came up the drive behind her in a white 4 door similar to what your neighbor on the shared driveway drives bodes not well at all.

No one out to make/cause trouble chooses a white or yellow vehicle as their first transport choice because they are so eye-catching. These bozos may be targeting you and your wife for some reason. I suggest you ask the police to increase their patrol presence in your neighborhood for a couple of weeks, just in case.

I also suggest that if she does not already have a pistol permit, she apply for one immediately. You'll need to speak to the County Sheriff. As I understand it from friends in North Carolina, the requirements to obtain one are similar to those here in New York. You have to pass a pistol safety course (ask the local police and the Sheriff; they'll know when the NRA courses are being offered, where, and how much they cost, which is usually around $100), have your fingerprints taken, have a background check run, and will need letters of recommendation from a couple of people who've known you for awhile. You also have to swear that you are not a convicted felon; have never been convicted of a domestic violence misdemeanor; have never been committed to a mental hospital; are not addicted to drugs; have never been dishonorably discharged from the Armed Forces; are not an illegal alien; and are not on the run from the law. The process usually takes about two months from the time the Sheriff has all the paperwork in hand, and the permit itself costs $75 for five years and can be renewed at the end of that time for another $75 for 5 years.

However, it's possible to obtain an emergency 90 day permit, nonrenewable, under certain conditions that will allow someone to carry immediately. The Sheriff is not obligated to grant it under all conditions, but he can if you can prove an immediate threat. (It's meant for protection against abusive spouses.)

Yes, I know that she won't be able to have a pistol on her 24/7; that she can't carry in the workplace; blah blah blah. But the important thing is she'll be able to have it on her when she's in transit, which from the sound of this incident would seem to be the time of greatest risk to her and you and the kids. And as I said, you never need a pistol until you really need one.

I strongly urge you to talk this over with her and the local police and then decide what to do next. Please keep us advised. I'll be thinking of you both.

Cyrano,

Thanks man for taking the time to outline everything (very nice of you). Both of us are clean as a whistle so she wouldn't have any problem getting a permit and it only takes 2 or 3 weeks around here.

First time she ever shot a pistol was with me and she did VERY well, so I know she could handle herself okay once I talked her into it.

As far as these guys targeting us I have been pretty darn vocal in the local newspaper comment areas online lately but your real name is not shown but who knows.

I am sure she won't go for packing a gun though, so it will be up to me and I am around her most of the time and she knows right where she can get my pistol when I am not around.

Well, I will be the one with bloodshot eyes and extra blankets on so I can keep the windows open and hear anything going on outside.

Wish I still had my dog around, but he got run over last week so no advanced warning "system".

It will be okay, but IF those if guys are messing with us as you suggested for some reason they better hope I don't get my hands on them next time because with two of them I won't be playing.

As my neighbors wife said to me as I walked her and the baby in tonight "I know you don't start anything but I know you'd finish it if those guys come back".

I am still amazed how damn fast they got out of here though, the neighborhood grew up all around this house so I can see and hear between homes to the street in addition to the long street they first had to go down and our driveway is not easy to get out of from where they were.

Something doesn't smell right

One good thing did come from this though. A little while ago she came up to me with my "Cheaper Than Dirt" catalog ya'll told me about and told me to circle what I wanted for my AMD-65 for Christmas.

As far as more "visitors" I'll let the guy in the red suit slide though

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/AKS033-1.html

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/AKS301-6.html

Hope I get one of these three

This is a good reason for you wife to have

a small gun in her purse or handbag.

Really, we live in dangerous times. This incident could have been very much worse. Thank heaven it wasn't.

nathangdad,

Yes Sir, I know it could have been much worse even though I was only just on the other side of the window near where she was parked. As we know things happen fast. I definitely am going to be talking to her more about being aware of her surroundings instead of what all she has to do that day.

I know she thinks I am paranoid but number one no car would be driving behind me before I even entered our property without my seeing it and if it looked suspicious I'd take other streets before I got anywhere near our driveway.

You just never know what kind of whack jobs are out there and being aware of all your surroundings and having a plan of action can mean all the difference.

I AM proud of the fact that she didn't do what many people may have done which was to get closer to the car where they could get hold of her or something.
Other thing she noticed was that even though it is a little cold here they had all the windows down. Maybe so if someone got close enough with their doors closed they could still grab you quick while the other one came around to help?

I am just glad she got right in here and I hope she will also quit leaving the darn doors unlocked when she comes in "for just a few minutes"

I would bet they were scoping out your hot rods. Looking for a way in and out. What nationality were these guys?

She couldn't tell the nationality because it was to dark in their car, they had the windows down and were talking from inside rather than with the door open and showing themselves with the interior light.

She said they had an accent but she didn't waste any time getting inside the house, so knew no more.

Offered her one of my small pistols and then even a butterfly knife which she can do better than me but she won't have any part of it so guess it is all up to me.It is wierd because she doesn't have any problem with me packing and having stuff around but not on her.

Anyhow,I was up REAL late last night and set some things up so I'd hear them if they came back but no more activity which was lucky for them because I was ready to roll.

I was putting my tractor inside the shed today and any other things that might tempt someone on the property and while I was out there I saw their tire tracks in the yard.

I knew they would have had to go back and forth a few times to get out of the driveway because it has a sharp blind curve and then you are committed to some manuvering to stay on the asphalt.

The ruts about 15 ft up into the yard in front of the barn gave that exit away though. It has been real wet around here and they left some nice ruts up into the yard then cut the wheel hard and made the curve easily and must have got on it pretty good to be gone completely out of sight.

Soooooooooo Daddy is ragged out to the max right now and now get to go to a bunch of Christmas plays

One good thing was my almost 15 year old son and I had one of the best talks we have had in a long time about expecting the unexpected whether it is driving,or at a concert,or in the house etc.

Maybe he will be helping his Mom from now on keeping an eye out for strange vehicles and all since she doesn't "want to become all paranoid" she says. I call it as the Scouts did "Be prepared"

YOu can't be too careful these days. I live near Charlotte and we get a lot of trash in our area. The best thing I ever did was get a concealed permit. I got to "show it' to some guy that was another nationality not long ago as I had stopped at a rest area and he comes up wanting " to ask me something". I showed my Browning and all at once he didn't have any questions. The bad guys are getting too brazen lately.

All I can say is I can respect people who go through slept deprevation after this darn week-end!

I need to get some kind of cheap sensors I can afford on our shoestring budget so I can get at least 5 seconds warning (I wake up very alert always) so I can sleep instead of waking up and watching under the door bottom for movement or every little sound.

Can't afford an alarm system but I'll bet someone here has some cheap methods a crook would trip rather than all the same commercial alram systems anyway.

I've seen cheap driveway alert systems at places like harbor freight, that should work...
