Thumbs up Clark County shooting park.

For all the Las Vegans interested in info. on the new shooting park here's a link to the website. At least those of you who didn't know about the site. It should be open in June.

It is said to be the largest public shooting park in the united states. At $96 million it sure should be. One of my friends is a Superintendant for the General Contractor out there so he keeps me upto date on what's going on. He asked me a few months ago if I had a 50BMG so they could do some testing for noise and also for the berms. Sadly I do not have one.

Yup once completed it's going to cover 900 acres. It's going to be quite affordable too. Wouldn't a 50 be nice? Oh well you can't have it all.

You got that right. I did see one at the Sportsman's Warehouse in Henderson for $3100. It looked like a really nice rifle but I just will have to dream.

I think it would be cool to shoot a .50 but I wouldn't want to own one. Ammo is expensive. I would think it would be costly even to a reloader.

Thanks for the update. The last I heard on the local "news" was that all the homeowners in the area were trying to stop it because they weren't given adequate notice that it was going in. 24 years is apparently not adequate.

Yeah it's certainaly going in and the builders of the sub divisions around there are at fault for not letting the buyers know what was going on. Just like the hog farm in Northern Las Vegas. The wife and I looked at houses up there and my wife kept asking what that smell was. The sales lady kept saying she wasn't sure what it was. I told her it smelled like pigs to me and she just played dumb. Wasn't until we drove around more that we saw the hog farm. They should've warned people but had they done that they couldn't have demanded a premimum for the homes.

Some of us in the area knew about the Shooting Park. I think that most of the people who lost money on their homes when the market crashed , have figured that maybe this is a way to get out of it. I think it is STUPID or whatever else you want to sugar coat it as, to fall into these peoples thinking that somehow the people that will use the range will turn their guns towards the homes or shoot at the planes as they fly by. My neabor won't let her daughter play on the local high school soccer team , because the field is near the shooting park, and just maybe a stray bullet will wiz down to the field. I am dumb founded as to how these people think.

I knew about the pig farm. Heck, it was on Dirty Jobs. That and my mother worked for the presidents of 3 strip hotels (across a span of almost 15 years) years ago. They love the fact that the farm does pickup of organic garbage for free. It's very win-win.

Oh cool...2 new Las Vegans. Hello to jondavis and OBEWAN, welcome.

Funny...2 new folks, 1 post each. How'd you hear about G&G?

Gotta point my wife to this thread. She mostly just lurks.

Everyone enjoying the rain? Heh.

I am definitely looking forward to the park being finished, especially after the last set of delays. I wonder what sort of jobs they'll be looking to fill?

I too am looking forward to the opening of the park. I think it will be great to goto a range that you don't have to be a member of or if you want to join the club you have to put your name down on a list and wait for someone to not renew their membership. I know it will be crowded at first but I think it will be worth it. Hopefully it will cut down on all the broken beer bottles and shot up garbage that people take out to the desert and shoot it up and then leave it. That is one of my pet pieves about people going out shooting.

glad i came by this post, i'm sick of driving across town to get to the range i go to. Also, assuming you pick up your targets is it illegal to drive out to the desert and shoot? i've heard mixed things.

AF guy technically it is illegal to shoot out in the desert but it also depends on where you're shooting. If you get far enough out of the city and are not on private land you should be ok. One thing you can do is look on clark county's website as Captsquirrel did to find locations that are suitable for shooting.

i've been trying to find a map or something online that would discern where it is legal and it isn't. everything i've found so far is very vague on the restrictions

AFGuy what part of Las Vegas are you in? I live in the south end of the Valley and where I go shooting is out in sloan caynon. It's a very popular area to shoot in. If you are up in the northern part of the valley captsquirrel said that if you take the 93 exit towards ely and Piocche and go out past the landfill you are free to shoot out that way.
What type of shooting are you looking to do? Pistols, rifle, shotgun? We just had a Gun and Game meet and shoot this past weekend. We're talking about doing it again possibly the end of Feb or mar time frame if you would like to go.

Post New here

New to Las Vegas. Just bought my gun today and should have it Monday. Can't wait to go shoot it. My first handgun and I am very excited. In case anyone wants to know its a Springfield XDm 9 MM. What indoor ranges are not busy and affordable? I live in the SE area right next door to UNLV and McCarran.

dgnagy, Welcome to G&G. I would stay away from the gun store for shooting. They cater to tourists who want to shoot SMG's. You may want to check out Ameican shooter's or Discount firearms. The american shooters sight is under construction but it still shows the addresses and phone numbers.
