Concealed Carry Class

I hear after the bookwork you have to shoot. How far are the targets from the shooters. How many rounds do you shoot and is this timed

Smile CCW shooting distances

lineman: Sir; different parts of our state seems to have different distances.
use the 7yds rule and you'll be okay.
Talk to or ask the individuals putting on the class.

follow up with your findings and thanks.

I just took my class here in Michigan, the so called certification shoot was to put 6 shots on a paper plate from 15 feet... Not a big deal, if you can't do that, you really need to practice before you go... Other than that, it's not hard at all..

In my class you shoot 10 times each @ 3, 5, & 7 yds, must have 21 out of 30 in an 8" target.

That sounds about like my class will be. I need to bring 35 rounds.

A-ha! My chance to really answer a question on G&G!

There really isn't a set rule as far as distances, scores, and number of rounds fired. It's up to the individual instructor.

I've talked to several instructors and sit in on a few classes. I've asked the question about 7 yards. The standard reply is: "That's the most common belief to be the maximum range for most self-defense situations with a handgun."

During the firing segment of the class, the instructors want to see if you can safely handle your gun. Not how many rounds you can put in the X-ring.

I took class on 4/11/09 in WNC. We fired from 1, 3, 5 and 7 yards, 40 rounds total. I thought it strange that all but 2 in my class used 22 Ruger semiautos or similar; I don't think they're gonna carry those big ole things in real life!
I used my 638 S&W, my intended primary carry gun. An ex cop from somewhere up north used his Taurus PT 99. And I'm STILL awaiting my license, 2 mos. later!
