I did not see this mentioned in the Mossberg forum so I thought I would pass this along. The current production model 500/590 shotguns now have a pinned action bar like on the maverick 88 shotgun. I guess Mossberg has done this for cost saving reasons. This will not effect the reliability of the action in any way, but it means the forearm is not detachable from the action tube assembally. So If you wanted to attach one of the after- market forends with picatinny rails or an integral light mount you will not be able to.
Brownells sells the action-tube assemblly in both the long and short configuration ( and the action tube nut) for the 500/590 if you want to convert a new 500 to the old style to accept a new forend.
I just wanted to pass this along to anyone shopping for a new 500/590
and is planing on adding a aftermarket tactical forend.

Very nice info just bought a mossberg 500A model 12. i just now got done reading how i cant put a front grip on it can you send a link. i really want a front grip also do u know where i can get fiber optic front sight for my plain barrel with a front bead sight
