Question New To Florida Gun Laws

Hi all......Have lived in Florida for a few years; but I just got possession of a revolver that was my mother's. I plan to take a gun class in the near future and I have the book, Florida Firearms: Law, Use, and Ownershiip. In Florida do I have to register this gun in my name and how do I go about it? I plan to apply for a CWP after the class. I want to take this gun to shoot in the range part of the class, should I purchase the ammo before or there at the range? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

welcome to Fla. the state with some of the best gun laws in the nation. you DO NOT have to register any gun (except machine guns and that is a Federal registration) according to state law. Although it is fairly un complicated to legally have a pistol in your vehicle or on your person, (un concealed) I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU GET YOUR CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMIT. in the case of whether a gun is considered illegally concealed or not, it is left to the officers discretion. by having a permit, it takes it out of the hands of the shaved head rookie who is trying to find something to get you on.
some ranges require you to use their ammo, some don't

Thumbs up

You may have a firearm in your vehicle as long as it is "secured",like in your glove compartment, console with a lid, zippered case, all with out a permit,as long as it is not on your person or "readily" accessable.
If you have the permit you may have it on your person but should be concealed.
If you have a permit you may carry it concealed in to a restaurant as long as the establisment is not devoted primarily to the serving/consumption of alcohol such as a bar.
The regulations are common sense oriented like most of the laws in Florida, unlike those of many states.
IMO Florida is a great place to life.

CCW is the way to go.

i've even got a link to the course material...
http://www.erml-gunclub.org/Groups/P...s%20Course.ppt
Study that info ahead of time and the course should present ZERO problems.

AND...study this for certain...Florida State Statutes for weapons.

Just went through the concealed course in Alachua (which was a really good one) a few weeks ago, and the instructor said if they allow you to smoke inside then you can't carry, but if they don't allow smoking, then it's OK to carry.

Note that these are 2005 statutes - refer to the current documents as there have been a few significant changes over the past while.

So true, smokeing is now prohibited in restaurants and most public buildings, bars OK.
Remember,a permit allows one to carry more that a firearm, there are a few more legal weapons, check 'em out.
