got my 995 today!
So now a question.......
I've heard that you should clean a new gun before you fire it the first time. True?
Yeah, I'm a newbie.

Can't hurt. And you can use the practice taking her apart and putting her back together.

A new carbine only needs a couple lightly oiled patches run through the barrel followed by a dry patch IMO. I don't think a take down & full cleaning is justified at this point.

i have cleaned and havent cleaned new guns.. i dont think it will hurt if you do or dont really. everytime i cleaned a new gun the patches werent really that dirty anyways. if you have time i would say do it just to get more familiar with the gun but dont think that you cant shoot it unless you clean it first.

Exactly, when you do oil it, oil it lightly.

Clean patch down the barrel before firing, each time you take it to the range! Get's rid of excess oil & any spiders!

Getting a Rabbit or rat out is fun, getting a hissing spitting cobra out is loads of fun! (every piece of drill pipe, casing or production tubing used on a Rig is rabbitted before being used.)
